KIIS Network

Wasn’t there also the issue of Kiss FM in Melbourne?

What a waste of an exercise that was. An both Kiss & KIIS1011 would have the same number of listeners.

KISS in Melbourne tried to stop them using KIIS because it was too close in branding, especially when spoken. They came to some arrangement. Probably involved $$$.

Probably not worth the $$$ in hindsight.

ARN denies $35m Sandilands payout provision

ARN has denied it set aside $35m to pay out its former presenter Kyle Sandilands after it terminated his contract. The denial, contained in a brief statement to the ASX, was in response to an article in the Australian.

The claim was published as part of Steve Jackson’s Media Diary column on Monday morning. It claims ARN had budgeted $35m in costs to avoid a courtroom showdown with Sandilands, after the network terminated its ten-year $100m contract with the shock jock over “gross misconduct” allegations.

Looks like Sydney’s Brooklyn Ross has left KIIS and he’s joining Kyle’s company/show

Can we take a moment to discuss this?

That’s pretty much everyone except Nat the EP that’s jumped KIIS to KSLIVE. What does it say about either Kyle’s aggression to win, or ARN’s culture to retain?

One would’ve expected more to remain at KIIS minus the A-team duo.

Everyone’s gone! Pete and Brooklyn. No one else is left.

DC I think we all agree it’s time to blow up KIIS Breakfast and announce the permanent. It should’ve been done months ago. Why is ARN gifting its talent and listeners to KSLIVE?

How many K&J listeners are going to pay to listen to Kyle? It’s one thing to listen free of charge on the radio, with commercials. It’s a whole other thing to pay for that sort of content. I genuinely question whether it will work.

I reckon you find out either you can match Kyle’s intensity and thrive on that, or you didn’t. It makes sense most of those left working with him when it imploded were those who fit Kyle’s culture, with Jackie O over time becoming one of those who couldn’t.

It’s a big risk given how financially difficult it will be for Kyle to pay everyone off maybe 5000 subscriptions, and he’ll obviously eventually stop turning up to work - a fill in/best of will be difficult early on - can’t exactly use the KIIS archives.

But I think for a lot of people, if you have the job you like doing, you’ll run with it - and I think it makes sense that a lot of the team Kyle has built around him are there for him, it’s kinda the only way it could ever have worked and why he wasn’t able to be managed by ARN.

ARN haven’t lost much here either - the team would be much too large for the cost base their new show would have to work from with lower ratings, and likely it’d be handy to have a pivot in the production staff to make it not a Kyle clone show.

Kyle likes Radio Broadcasts, fame and the fortune. Unlike Jackie who’s very private and insecure.

Also, we need to feel for the people working BTS on their breakfast show at KIIS before the whole shenanigans started at March.

I’m surprised Pete didn’t join the dark force yet.

Agreed. I just don’t get it. I’d understand people listening as a free podcast but paying $99 up front and to listen live or catchup via an app? I’m not sold.

while Sydney has lost radio audience I don’t see them all going to an app. Probably just lost to the ether.

I don’t think saying you don’t want to work with your colleague because of bullying is breaking a contract. You would actually have to follow through and refuse to do your job and duties. That never happened - because they terminated her.

Contracts can’t be broken for indicating something that may or may not happen in future.

She did follow through though. After the incident, Jackie failed to turn up for work the following shift and subsequently later that week or even the following week I think, informed them she could no longer work with Kyle and still didn’t return to air. That’s the definition of her refusing to do her job and fulfil her duties. That’s when they terminated her contract. Roughly two weeks of her not going on air.

I have read reports that ARN claim she didn’t follow through with the bullying complaint properly though. i.e. she allegedly didn’t agree to formalise the complaint and follow the proper complaint process. So this would weaken her argument if true, and strengthen ARN’s case for terminating the contract.

I’ve just had a listen to the other KIISes - the all-90s week is happening in Adelaide and Brisbane only.

Oh gosh.

KIIS1065 have fallen from grace. Going back to the Mix106.5 days IMO.

Have/are they losing too many to RnB Fridays?

You know you’ve got no strong talent if you’re reverting to music features.

DC says he’s taking his time in announcing any new team. I really wonder if he’s got anyone.
