Am I the only one who thinks the whole thing was a giant publicity stunt?

There is absolutely no way it was.

A publicity stunt wouldn’t lead to the comment “Industry cares more about money than connection”.

I don’t really get what you’re saying

I think it’s an acceptance that ARN made a mistake. I can’t see that you’d actively want to have what happened over the last few weeks as a publicity stunt.

While the timing is intriguing (a day after announcing significant changes to off-air management), I can’t imagine it’s the sort of thing that you can pull together in the space of a day (not saying it’s impossible). Makes me wonder if they’ve decided to react to market feedback.

A publicity stunt would not cause such negative backlash from both the hosts and listeners is what I was saying.

The comment above has explained it better than I could.

Having the presenters and listeners tear strips off KIIS would not be a very good publicity stunt. I think it’s safe to say that KIIS stuffed up badly and have reversed their mistake.

No, but they didn’t hire DC and Kerri overnight. Even if they haven’t started there would be have conversations and timing the announcements to coincide is a great sign to the industry that maybe they’ve finally got their shit together.

To me this would have to come with a decision to let the Brisbane and Adelaide ‘KIIS’ stations run with an older skewed music format.

Replacing the breakfast show was a rip the band-aid off move - dump those legacy 97.3 listeners for a clear run at a CHR crown. You can’t square what their station was at breakfast to the network.

Then there’s the age old saying “all publicity is good publicity”.

It’s all just too convenient for me. So Robyn and Co were all just ready and willing to come back? Meh, still not buying it I’m afraid, but to each their own.

I think it is too

Just a weird publicity stunt concept, I don’t think they’re that smart. They just messed up and reversed the decision. I reckon they were worried about where it would fit in market, perhaps leading to the older skewing KIIS situation as mentioned above

I was thinking the same thing. Either that, or this was DC’s first power play as part of his forthcoming appointment to ARN.

I can’t believe how right Game Changers Radio was with this. CB has been saying for weeks that ARN needs to own its mistake and that it’s not too late to return the trio to the network.

The odds were tiny… but were the winning odds.

I think that would be giving ARN too much credit tbh

If I was unemployed in a shrinking job market and my old work offered my job back - presumably with a salary bump (you’d hope) - I’d take employment every day.

Especially after you’ve criticised them for how they dismissed you.

Certainly there has been a bit of remorse from ARN. It’s subtle but it’s there.

KIIS line up this week (SYD/MEL/BNE)

6-10am Summer slam with MC

10am-3pm Petho

3-4pm The Pick Up

4-6pm Petho

6-7pm

7-8pm KIIS Mix

The Pick Up wasnt on air yesterday again.

Yes possibly.

But what has really raised my suspicions was the article and pictures in the Daily Mail of a forlorn looking Robyn at a beach retreat holiday following the sacking/last show. Any story about ARN personalities that appear in the DM are completely planted (and possibly paid for by ARN). The photos looked SO staged.

Anyway we’ll never know probably.

I agree. DC and KS would have made this a priority on day one.

That was my first thought as well tbh, but I think there was too much bitterness from them on the way out the door for that to be the case.
