There was still emerging flooding issues today in Ipswich and Toowoomba, and still a lot of power and public transport outages across Brisbane even this afternoon.

The one time ARN was local and caring outside Sydney even though it was simply for emergency coverage

They are local everyday with their breakfast show.

You are true there
However until ARN find reason to remove them for K&JO at some point in the next 12-24 months.

yeah, but only being local for 3 and a half hours, and then relaying other shifts from Sydney for the remainder of the day isn’t really good enough.

Based on Lava observations from last year, it appears that KIIS have been playing a shorter version of Eminem’s 2024 single “Houdini” (tagged as a “Short Clean Edit”) compared to other stations. I haven’t heard it, but I’m assuming they cut out the second verse and went straight from the first chorus to the breakdown (“Sometimes, I wonder what the old me’d say…”), as this would create a fluid radio-friendly, under 3-minute cut. Am I correct?

A breakfast show that’s constantly under threat of being dumped for those two low-lifes. All while ARN do everything they can to cruel the rest of the station by blowing up the successful AC format and piping in Sydney 21 hours a day. Yeah nah.

Yep, KIIS 1065 Sydney into Brisbane on an hour’s delay during Daylight Saving Time.

And if anything is to go by, it’ll soon be 24 hours a day. If K&J take over Brisbane, then this is the end of 97.3 FM Brisbane, except for during a major weather emergency. Zach & Dom’s Up Late and Up Early shows come out of Brisbane, but that’s a syndicated national show. They were only live and local in the Brisbane market during the course of TC Alfred.

May as well just turn KIIS 97.3 Brisbane into a repeater of KIIS 1065 Sydney I guess. Only go live and local when there’s a serious weather emergency like what happened last week.

Sad given ARN spent so much money on new studios for both 4KQ and 97.3FM several years ago. Now a ghost town in terms of on-air teams. Not to mention, I wonder what they’re doing with the previous 4KQ studios?

96FM is now using the Just Great Songs positioner. Surely this means a rebrand to Gold is imminent, especially after the mention of bringing the Gold Network to Perth in the annual report.

I certainly hope so. It’s never fit nicely into the KIIS network and was purely put there to accomodate KIIS technically being national for sales etc.

96FM traditionally belongs to this format so hopefully they care more about this than KIIS network sales approach.

It barely counts as actual KIIS so perhaps advertisers are seeing through the organizational structure side of it anyway with their spend.

Additionally, 96FM has previously had a guitar pick in their logo. So adapting the new Gold logo wouldn’t look too foreign for the audience - and given its music format, it represents it better than the current KIIS hot lips.

Yes exactly! Forget to make note of this.

The only thing I like about it is they’re gone for a bit of a KISS the band Red and White variant of the lips for 96fm, which does work in a way? Symbolising the rock format history. And then replacing the KIIS font with their oldschool logo in the lips was a nice touch. But just make it a damn Gold station already!

Maybe they’ll put KIIS on DAB like Nova have done with Smooth, so those that really want KJO in Perth can dig to find it

I like that idea. KIIS Perth on DAB+ would be great. Network K&J, Gordie, etc. and you’re all set.

That’d free up 96 to go Gold and still keep Kyle happy - which is ARN’s company mission & vision.

while it is good that 96 is finally going to join a network it belongs on, i just hope ARN isn’t dumb enough with this change to Gold, to change 96FM’s name to Gold 96.1…

I know heritage is a big thing, but I don’t mind either KIIS96 or even GOLD96.

I think Gold 96FM would be ok

From the linked Herald Sun article:

It sounds like the externally employed driver of the car took it for a spin at the end of of his shift, but still more bad PR for KIIS.

Also, did the ARN statement seriously refer to their Thunderbirds as Black Thunders? If so (and it’s not just a transcription error by the Herald Sun) that’s branding 101 mistake and they can expect a cease and decist letter from SCA who own the Black Thunder trademark.
