What I don’t get is doesn’t Nova Ent have ANY say at all over their 50% investment in 97.3? Bringing K&J to Brisbane surely has a high chance of reducing the value of their investment… Or if by some miracle it’s a big success as a CHR station then it impacts on their other station in the market Nova 106.9

It was mentioned a while ago that the huge contract officially starts in 2025, so no doubt broadcasting into Brisbane would’ve been part of it.

Possibly still time to ditch the contract altogether then if it doesn’t start till 2025…just saying.

We can hope but it seems unlikely given management have been defending them.

Might be time for the ARN Board to get a bit more active.. Management might end up sinking the ship.

In all seriousness, is this possible? Exit clauses and such?

It’s possible there are clauses around not proceeding if it’s before the commencement date of the contract..

I wonder though if management cancel it then Kyle will definitely walk so it really is loose loose whatever management do.

Possibly. But where would he walk to? It’s been proven he’s not the national hit he says he would be. I don’t think he’d be that appealing to Nova or SCA anymore to be honest. The best he could offer Nova or SCA would be the Sydney audience.

I think SCA would take them back in a heartbeat but only for Sydney.

Yes probably. But Kyle’s ego wouldn’t go for that. He might as well just stay on KIIS 1065. At some point ARN need to work out whether they’re worth the cost.

Yes, management are loose. They have everything to lose. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But extremely unlikely. Contracts are about giving certainty and locking both parties in. A contract that has a clause allowing it to be cancelled before it even starts without a good reason is a terrible contract.

Ray Hadley signed a contract to the end of 2026 last year but announced his retirement just recently. It’s pretty common to have exit clauses both before and during.

While I don’t think KIIS 97.3’s shift makes much sense, the numbers do support it somewhat.

In Survey 8 2021, where they were top of the ratings in the old 97.3 format, they had 11.2 in 10+, but a 6.6 in 18-24 and a 10.1 in 25-39s, with the bulk of their ratings being winning in 40-54 and a strong 55-64 share behind 4KQ.

In the last survey they are getting a 10.1 share in 10+, but are 11.2 in 18-24 and 11.7 in 25-39s. They shed the older audience but haven’t done too badly in the 18-39s that would be the main target demographic. They aren’t winning, but they are losing the listeners that probably don’t matter to the advertisers.

If anything, Kyle and Jackie O now reach an advertiser segment pretty unique among breakfast radio. As a very polarising show, if you’ll accept the brand risk to be on there, you’re going to be able to target a pretty specific group.

Time to switch my channel over to TMS or Drew Barrymore now… :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

1.6 point increase in breakfast for KIIS 973.
Equal #2. Surely they’d be stupid to dump their team for K&JO ?

They did the same when Jase and Lauren were projected to become number 1.

I take it this never happened?

Difference is, they’ve now got proof that ‘invading’ the market destroyed them. Wonder if Brisbane would respond the same way, especially if the show was delayed in AEDT?
