Depending on what happens, they may be happy to let them go

They could, however, given how they still bring in the big numbers in Sydney, I don’t think they would like to run the risk of losing those numbers, as well as sponsors, etc.

Wow  Talking shit about the person he mentored just shows how low of a scumbag he is

I understand what you’re saying but is that really that much of a risk anymore, as their Melbourne performance has cast serious doubt in their appeal outside Sydney? I feel like SCA or Nova would think twice before poaching then now.

I did read some speculation that there are some get out clauses, particularly early in 2025

SCA are having the last laugh here.

To think that SCA would’ve taken K&J and given them a national brekkie show, when they can barely make a dent in the Melbourne market.

I too agree. I don’t think “cleansing the show” will help in any way. It is just another excuse to buy more time.

The fact is, Melbourne already has a number of very successful and fantastic brekkie shows unlike Sydney radio.

I’ve said it before - K&J have been a success in Sydney due to a number of things. Not just because of the show itself. If Sydney had strong competition like Jase & Lauren and Christian O’Connell, it’d be a different market. KIIS106.5 is just lucky that Nova96.9 and 2DayFM are so mediocre in the mornings.

Yes but the risk is Sydney only. They clearly don’t appeal outside of Sydney

Yes, however, they still make a lot of money for ARN, so they are still very valuable to the company, regardless if they are in just one market, or right across the country.

It’s the Kyle and Jackie O best bits in Sydney and Melbourne today.

Yes they make a lot of money, but they also cost a lot of money. It’s about the profit.

No I think he just thinks that people don’t like his show because he’s a “foreigner”, when it’s really about the content and actions rather than the origin of any host or presenter.

Absolutely spot on.

Despite not setting the world on fire in Melbourne, it’s still a show that pulls over 2-million weekly listeners across breakfast and its evening Hour of Power. I work in agency sales and I can’t think of any other radio show whose cumulative audience is anywhere near KJs.

Survey 3 of last year, their cumulative audience (921,000) compared to the total number of Sydney breakfast radio listeners (3,536,000) saw them pull an impressive figure of 26%. Essentially meaning 1 in 4 Sydneysiders tuned in to their show at some point during the week.

In amongst all the negative articles, sub-Reddits and forums, it’s easy to forget that this is a show that deliberately built itself as a polarising brand. Discussions about how outrageous Kyle and Jackie are serve nothing more than to ensure their relevance in amongst Australian pop culture. The day they don’t get spoken about anymore is the day they’ll have to shut up shop. Clearly there is an appetite in Melbourne for KJ-related content given the sheer number of articles being published about them.

Kyle gets a mention on the latest episode of Last King of the Cross and was in a scene played by an actor whose name I can’t find anywhere.

His name is Govinda Roser. :slightly_smiling_face:

Advertisers have fled the show before. They’ll probably lie low for a while then quietly come back.

Or not. Everyone has a use by date, including K&J. A middle aged couple hosting a CHR breakfast at the end of the day.

On top of the Melbourne situation though? I can’t see KIIS gaining a lot of advertising revenue in the southern capital for some time.
