So, only the hard stuff then.

Reading all the above comments… its clear as hell why they’re loosing Melbourne.

Heck I’m surprised Sydney is still listening.

Sydney has no culture or standards.

Is that necessary? 2 radio presenters don’t represent an entire city.

Why do they win the ratings then?

I don’t believe that… I think most are just rusted onto K&J.

Agree somewhat, but what % are they pulling in Sydney? 10%? So 90% still have standards

I have a theory that for Sydney a section of the audience is likened to the “boiling the frog” adage. The drop in standards has happened over many years with K & J and it’s happened so slowly they haven’t realised how disgusting most of the content is, and how out of step it is with what’s acceptable. They’ve become desensitized to it over time.

Then they launch in Melbourne and most people there are like WTH is this crap.

Just because they win the ratings doesn’t mean that they represent the city.

They are number 1 out of all people listening to the radio - could be only 25% of the population is listening to radio at Breakfast.

Also, they don’t survey every single listener - they survey a group and make an estimate out of that data.

However, I don’t get why they run best of shows instead of just getting someone to fill in - AFAIK many of the commercials have fill in presenters - even the ABC are able to get fill in presenters for programs.

I’ve always thought their Hot 30 audience are now 35+, so Sydney have grown up with them since the 90’s.

A heritage duo in that city, would bring back memories of your teen years just hearing their voices

I am someone that listened to them on the Hot 30 as a very young teenager. The thing with Kyle and Jackie O is that their content is still in similar line to those days but I feel is still much more suitable to night radio. That’s when FM radio does become a lot less serious, with more pop culture/gossip/risque topics often discussed and it feels more suitable to the evenings which would be consumed by more of a younger audience.

I’ve heard a few things on the Ben, Liam and Belle show (which is now in the evenings) that are topics you probably wouldn’t discuss in the morning either but it fits the timeslot more. K&JO content just never felt right in the morning slot for me as it’s very different to typical breakfast radio. It’s working in Sydney so good for them but at the same time not surprising why that hasn’t translated in Melbourne either.

I would point out, though, that the metric of Share % isn’t the same as the percentage of Sydneysiders who listen to a show for longer than 7-and-a-half minutes a week. You’ve got to remember that Share % doesn’t reflect listeners that may tune in to a number of different stations and shows. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a radio listener who doesn’t flick between presets.

An interesting gauge is to look at the total number of breakfast radio listeners in Sydney from Survey 5, which is 3,446,000 and then look at K&JO’s total cume, which is 750,000. You can then calculate that 22% of breakfast radio listeners in Sydney tune in to K&JO at some point during the week.

Doing the same calculation for K&JO in Melbourne has them at 14%, which is obviously significantly lower than market leaders J&L on a commanding 19%.

The national standouts, though, is Nova 93.7’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun in Perth who are on 31%. A third of all Perth breakfast radio listeners flicking over to the guys at some point during the week!

Is it public holiday on friday in Melbourne? That means all brekky shows are off air except for KJ is it?

ABC still on, and presumably 3AW.

Don’t get ahead of yourself. There’s a good chance they will chuck a sickie again.

Well… as expected they were on air in Melbourne this morning.

Let’s see and wait if they will go on air next Monday when Sydney will be on Public holiday and not in Melbourne.

They would’ve been the only Melbourne FM brekkie team to probably not mention the AFL GF this weekend.

KYLE 101.1 had technical difficulties during a dance song this evening, audio glitching on the FM feed. iHeartRadio feed not affected. Occurred at 11:34pm.
