I’ve always thought their Hot 30 audience are now 35+, so Sydney have grown up with them since the 90’s.
A heritage duo in that city, would bring back memories of your teen years just hearing their voices

I am someone that listened to them on the Hot 30 as a very young teenager. The thing with Kyle and Jackie O is that their content is still in similar line to those days but I feel is still much more suitable to night radio. That’s when FM radio does become a lot less serious, with more pop culture/gossip/risque topics often discussed and it feels more suitable to the evenings which would be consumed by more of a younger audience.
I’ve heard a few things on the Ben, Liam and Belle show (which is now in the evenings) that are topics you probably wouldn’t discuss in the morning either but it fits the timeslot more. K&JO content just never felt right in the morning slot for me as it’s very different to typical breakfast radio. It’s working in Sydney so good for them but at the same time not surprising why that hasn’t translated in Melbourne either.
I would point out, though, that the metric of Share % isn’t the same as the percentage of Sydneysiders who listen to a show for longer than 7-and-a-half minutes a week. You’ve got to remember that Share % doesn’t reflect listeners that may tune in to a number of different stations and shows. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a radio listener who doesn’t flick between presets.
An interesting gauge is to look at the total number of breakfast radio listeners in Sydney from Survey 5, which is 3,446,000 and then look at K&JO’s total cume, which is 750,000. You can then calculate that 22% of breakfast radio listeners in Sydney tune in to K&JO at some point during the week.
Doing the same calculation for K&JO in Melbourne has them at 14%, which is obviously significantly lower than market leaders J&L on a commanding 19%.
The national standouts, though, is Nova 93.7’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun in Perth who are on 31%. A third of all Perth breakfast radio listeners flicking over to the guys at some point during the week!
Is it public holiday on friday in Melbourne? That means all brekky shows are off air except for KJ is it?
ABC still on, and presumably 3AW.
Don’t get ahead of yourself. There’s a good chance they will chuck a sickie again. ![]()
Well… as expected they were on air in Melbourne this morning.
Let’s see and wait if they will go on air next Monday when Sydney will be on Public holiday and not in Melbourne.
They would’ve been the only Melbourne FM brekkie team to probably not mention the AFL GF this weekend.
KYLE 101.1 had technical difficulties during a dance song this evening, audio glitching on the FM feed. iHeartRadio feed not affected. Occurred at 11:34pm.
is this really necessary?
For the first time since before the Melbourne launch…. Kyle and Jackie O went overtime today…. not finishing 10am on point.
But only for 5 mins then one commercial then straight to Gordie.
What happened in Brisbane?
Melbourne has made their mind up. If this has already been posted before, my apologies. If not, this is per the latest Melbourne radio survey released this morning. Might be time to kill off the “extreme” radio show in Melbourne? Or maybe ARN just doesn’t care about KIIS 101.1 anymore?
Who would they replace them with that would be able to turn things around though? I think that too much damage has been done at this point.
We have an entire topic where this is being discussed.
OK then, thanks for that. Will discontinue discussing it in this thread.
Have to agree with this…
. They have made every mistake a new show could make, and then some, over the last few months.”
They need to pull them.
Own up - say ‘Melbourne, we got it wrong’ and put a local show in market from next Monday (music/speed breaks). Introduce a new local breakfast from January 2025. Sometimes a mea culpa goes a long way.
No idea how to figure out Kyle and Jackie O’s contract through ![]()
But a question would be who can they actually get to replace them that could make a difference? I presume the budget won’t allow for any big local names, and I doubt Kyle and/or Jackie O would be willing to give up on their $200 million salary.
