I’d say after the failure of Melbourne, any potential plans to go into other states would be reviewed now.
I’ll never understand why they don’t just test the waters with DAB first if they’re so desperate to be “national”. Why risk their FM stations in Brisbane and Adelaide without at least seeing if there is some appetite with DAB and online first?
I wonder if they (Kyle and Jackie) had a figure in mind for the next contract and in order to justify the dollars they had to come up with extras or something?
Kyle just mentioned at the end of their show that their 10 year contract doesn’t start until January and they plan on invading Brisbane.
I’m sure B105 and Nova are shaking in their boots… Can’t wait to watch 97.3 plummet further. If they think Melbourne’s response is lukewarm so far, just wait till they see how smutty sex talk goes down in Brisbane!
Looks like its going to happen sooner than later…
“Expect the unexpected”
I’d rather like to send this message to Brisbane residents.
Brisbane - expect the sexpected! (Sex & unexpected - 2 words blended in together)
This means Brisbane can expect heaps of sex talk on 97.3 FM come 2025 - if Kyle gets his way of things and ARN does decide to take the duo’s show into the Queensland capital.
This is part of his plan to go nationwide at breakfast - yes there will be some people listening, but then there will also be others who will just flick the dial to another radio station which doesn’t carry this stuff, whether that be a commercial or community radio station.
Brisbane - get ready to switch your dials - here comes sex talk on 97.3 FM!
That’s the message for Brisbane - for when (and if) they do expand into the Queensland capital.
Going by that picture there, I reckon once Brisbane gets it, Adelaide will be next!
Not sure how Brisbane rates, but Mix 102.3 usually get’s decent ratings, even though Breakfast is currently 4th, and still has local daytime presenters.
If things do change, they will probably axe the daytime presenters first. Ali Clarke is also a popular personality (back when she was on ABC she had a strong lead), so I don’t think sacking her will go down well.
Another added issue is that if they delay Kyle and Jackie O, then Adelaide listener’s won’t be able to call in and join in the show.
I noticed this earlier this week and my first thought was if it’s true that Kyle and Jackie O are coming to Brisbane soon (allegedly according to Kyle) then why are they bothering promoting Robin and Kip?
It’s not going to help them, that show is terminal.
Yeah a lot of advertising for 97.3 in general lately. There’s a whiff of desperation. People are switching off the new music format. In fact their ratings slide would probably be worse without the heritage breakfast show.
I still can’t work out if “KIIS is 973” or “973 is KIIS” is the better way to say it?
973 was around before KIIS. So wouldn’t it make more sense to say, “973 is KIIS”? I get that it’s now referred to as KIIS973, but still.
see i interpret “KIIS is 97.3” as “97.3FM has not gone away, we’re now KIIS 97.3”
although stuff like this is why they should’ve thrown 97.3 on Pure Gold as soon as 4KQ ended…
Exactly. Left it as 97.3FM with “Pure Gold” underneath. Broadened the music. It could still have skewed younger than WS and Gold 104.3, more like the Greatest Memories & Latest Hits era of 4KQ (i.e. played new music as well). It would be rating 15 or 16% in Brisbane right now - conservatively.
Doesn’t seem to matter how obvious it is to everyone, but that doesn’t seem to be the plan for 97.3.
Getting quite sick of the promo now; very high rotation.
