Jase Hawkins announced on KIIS 101.1 breakfast today the birth of his third child, a son named Archer Charles (Archie).
I guess we now know who will take over Kyleâs spot when he eventually retires⌠
Jackie tested positive to COVID
How late does their show run these days?
I switched to KIIS at nearly 11am this morning and Kylle was doing his best impression of a 2GB shock jock while bagging a 2GB shock jock.
I still donât understand how he rates so well there.
At least 10:30am most days.
They do it to boost the 9-12 workday ratings.
I am surprised Nova have not considered running F&W to 10am as 9-12 is their weakest slot, maybe Nova listeners switch over to KIIS for an hour and a half of Kyle??
Jase & Lauren are under fire for a prank they did on Valentines day. I know itâs the Dailymail but it has no paywall so: Bryce Ruthven slams KIIS radio hosts Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips' 'disingenuous apology' | Daily Mail Online
I thought this particular part of Bryceâs reaction to their apology to be honestly just rude and unnecessary.
Obviously these âscandalsâ are not uncommon in radio but this one seems to be particularly bad looking at the comments of KIISâs and Jase and Laurenâs posts and the latter turning comments off all together.
Well if they usually enjoying themselves⌠they usually finish around 10.30 or sometimes before 11am or in one stage 11am.

Gordie really donât mind starting that late⌠I spoke to him on instagram before.
Seems pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things. Seems like Bryce just trying to drum up publicity for himself again.
Iâm surprised they donât just run K&JO later with non-live highlights from 6-7am hour at 10am etc. They could be live 6-10 and stretch it out further with highlights from early on in the show til midday, just with more music as the morning goes on.
Itâs not quite that simple. For virtually every other breakfast show in the country, that would be the correct thinking of we pay you for X hours and you therefore work for X hours.
Not for K&J. They go until Kyle is done. Some days that might be earlier, other days later. For them itâs not just about having content for people to listen to - itâs about still being engaging, continuing with the flow and not wrapping things up prematurely. Playing highlights at 10, while it might seem the same, would completely break that flow and Kyle, more than anyone else, knows that.
Itâs quite the opposite though. It seems to be mostly talkback from 9-11. I have to wonder whether Kyle prefers to do that and is just preparing for the day when he just does that. Maybe at another station?
Does Jackie stay the whole time?
I believe so. She was there until 11am yesterday.
Can I ask because Iâm from Brisbane, what happened the other week with Kyle leaving early, what time did the show end?
Brian68 - I reckon so many people in Sydney listen to Kyle and Jackie as they sound less scripted than their competition. You are never quite sure what Kyle or Jackie will say next. You get the feeling the producers donât get to order these two around - the talent is in charge.
Compare this to the FM shows on Nova, MMM, WS and 2DayFM where you get the feeling that tomorrowâs breakfast show is being written today - complete with each joke and space for the unspontaneous laughter.
I consider myself to be reasonably intelligent human but I do confess to listening to Kyle and Jackie O.
Forced laughter is a crime against quality radio and I find Kyle and Jackie O ânot guiltyâ of this heinous charge.
Funny you say that. After my comments earlier I tuned into K&J for about an hour and was thinking the exact same thing. No one tells Kyle what to do, and by extension that applies to Jackie too. KIIS is in effect Kyleâs station - it will be interesting to see if the name stays when he eventually leaves - it will be a very different place.
I actually think this level of talent running the show is common across a lot of successful shows. Christian OâConnell is the same (although executed very differently). Hamish and Andy too.
Unfortunately it a bit of a chicken and the egg situation. Only experienced, proven, talent are capable of and can be trusted to run the show, which the less experienced with potential get constrained when they need to room to move.
Often itâs a producer problem - to many producers are juniors looking for a path to their own show and have even less experience than those theyâre producing. A good show, if it needs to be producer led, needs a great, experienced producer who can guide rather than stifle. Sam Kavanagh and Sonder Novak-Booth are great examples.
What I also like about Kyle is that he lets others speak. He doesnât need to be the only voice heard which means the listener gets the full value of whatâs being said rather than an interesting story being cut off by a cheap gag before cutting to the traffic.
Fair enough. Interesting insight.
Although itâs a different station and demographic I have often thought similarly of the 4KQ breakfast show. Not that itâs anything like K&J, but it often sounds very unscripted and free flowing, especially Laurel. I think thatâs part of their success also.
It will need a distinct format change, plug the FM format gap left by Nova, SCA, ARN. Not to lurch from disaster to disaster that 2DAY has.
