International Sports Rights

It’s more the long term effects of allowing broadcasts in that slot, not a one-off weekend.

LIV Golf tour has announced its first broadcast deal in the United States, penning a ‘multi-year’ agreement with The CW Network.

LIV Golf did not disclose details of the partnership, but several media outlets have reported that The CW will not pay for media rights to LIV Golf in the traditional sense, nor would it buy time on the network. Instead, the proposed agreement would be to share advertising revenue.

It was also revealed that Amazon Prime would stream the Black Friday NFL game between New York Jets and Miami live for free for subscribers and non-subscribers in the US. (The game will be shown on ESPN in Australia)

I know that it’s not popular with spectators that travel to games but think this is the right way forward.

It’s insane in this day and age that televised coverage is still so heavily restricted in the UK.

One compromise I have thought of to eventually get all 380 games broadcast in the UK would be to make Sunday the new ‘main day’ with 6 or 7 games and only have lunchtime and evening kickoffs on Saturday (reserving the 3pm slot for the Championship and lower leagues to protect their attendances).

So Apple want something they cant actually get with the premier league

huh?

I’m kinda surprised - the ROW rights would be much more valuable than the UK to Apple where there are so many restrictions. Of course you’d need the overseas rights deals all to end and align at once but an Apple worldwide deal could have worked well.

With global interest in the Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) at an all-time high, a new deal has been struck with ESPN to air all games exclusively LIVE into the United States.

The entire 2023/24 season will be carried on ESPN3 and the ESPN App in a landmark deal for the League and provides further proof the NBL is the best league in the world outside of the NBA.

Great news for NBL. Before today’s deal, the only way for Americans to watch the NBL was via its YouTube channel (also applies to countries which don’t have a current broadcast deal with the league).

Great for the NBL to get such a larger reach over there. Didn’t realise that ESPN US were still adding content to ESPN3, would’ve thought they would be pushing all their streaming exclusive content to ESPN+.
