NBC briefly lost audio and went to an international feed during SNF before returning to normal after a set of commercials
Does the NFL do their own production now?
They do it for international broadcasts.
Not production per-se, they just commentate and have their graphics over the host feed (for most games, yes they do have NFL Network exclusives).
New opener for BBC’s snooker coverage, reusing their original track, Drag Racer. No new inserts though.
In comparison, this is the predecessor with the remixed music (the endboard changed with the new BBC blocks last year):
This is also the first time the coverage is produced by Sunset+Vine, taking over from IMG since 1997.
Cricket Australia and Optus Stadium will ramp up security in Perth after a heated altercation between commentary star Wasim Akram and an abusive fan after play on Saturday (of Australia-India test match).
This masthead understands the fan verbally abused the Pakistan cricket legend for close to an hour after play when Akram was trying to complete his cross for Indian broadcaster Star near the boundary fence at Optus Stadium.
Akram had already signed an autograph for the man inside the venue but the fan would not relent and continued to harass the cricket star, who is beloved by cricket audiences in Australia.
The fan, a young man, was then either waiting for Akram outside the ground or happened to be there when the commentator left the stadium to take a cab.
A heated verbal argument ensued before security intervened and the man continued to remonstrate with security.
He was then taken away by security. It is unknown if the man was intoxicated.
Interesting he’s working for Indian television and not anyone else (especially Seven having not tapped him with their absences).
He worked with Fox last time so maybe he’s with them for any Pakistan matches?
Following the island’s historical win in the baseball game, ELTA TV, Taiwan’s rights holder for Premier12 games, jokingly announced that the championship match will be reran across their sports channels for the next year (and the matches are indeed on the schedule for this week).

TVNZ have retained the same set of graphics for their cricket coverage for the 5th straight season (including the 3 years on Spark)
IIRC, TVNZ were essentially handed Spark Sport’s entire rights catalogue when Spark Sport collapsed, so that’s probably the main reason the package wasn’t changed.
If/when TVNZ bids for the rights directly, that might be when you would see some changes.
Out of interest, how long was Spark’s contract for the cricket rights?
The coverage is still being produced by Whisper - as it was under Spark Sport. They’re using what is essentially a Whisper template for graphics. So they could change it but they haven’t chosen to.
It’s a six season contract - this is the penultimate season of the current rights deal
Expect TVNZ to try and retain or will it go back to Sky?
I struggle to see TVNZ stumping up the money to be able to retain it, given their recent cutbacks. Only option would be NZC accepting a cutprice deal to retain FTA access.
Something NZC indicated at the start of the year they would be willing to consider:
Yep - this was pre-TVNZ slashing and burning, so I really don’t know how much they’ll have to stump up but can certainly see the benefits.
If they wanted coverage on free to air in NZ, the NZC board could do what the SANFL did for a number of years and stump up some of the costs:
“We have had to invest some more. Last year we invested $70k so it’s a sizeable increase on that and we don’t want to talk about those numbers publicly at this point in time, but … it is an increase,”
I’d assume NZ Cricket would get most of their TV rights money from overseas sales - it’s not a “Dream 11” Super Smash for nothing…
If there’s kids picking to play Cricket instead of Rugby because their family can see it on TV or afford to go to some matches - then that sets NZC up for long term success, and will pay for itself with their cricket being a high standard and attract overseas broadcasters.
