International News

Going back to radio, here is a compilation that I recently produced of current radio news jingles in the UK, including stations from the BBC, Global, Bauer, and Wireless Group. It also features what could be described as the British version of 1010 WINS, LBC News:

This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Speaking of which, here’s an interesting compilation of LBC’s news sounders from the station’s launch up until 2008:

A historical compilation of news opens from CHAN-TV in Vancouver, BC, Canada. For much of its existence, the station was known as BCTV. It now carries full Global branding is and is known on-air as Global BC. Its open newsroom set, introduced in the late 1970s, inspired CNN’s original facility.

And a blast from the past, here’s CBS This Morning from 1991, with a look that couldn’t get any more early '90s. Note an interesting report from the Consumer Electronics Show at the 58:10 mark:

“Also sounds like a black man…sign of the times…”.

Is there something wrong with having a “black man” be the v/o?

Ah, Im pointing out that a national breakfast show is using a black voice over as it’s announce in 2020. That is a first I believe in the UK. That is significant.

The comment was that and just that

Stop Trying to spin my words please.

Perhaps you should be more careful how you express your words then - the vast majority of your post was negative and there was zero cues that you were making a statement rather then passing some kind of snarky comment (like the one about him being stoned and asleep)

You said them. You’re clearly trying to invoke something.

No. I said that the VO is awful.

And that it’s significant that they’ve elected to use a black actor for the opening VO.

That’s what I said. The two points are unrelated.

But you made the connection. Don’t keep digging. Maybe you should have just gone back to bed this morning, as you suggested.

I didn’t make the connection. You did. Stop trying to reinterpret My posts.

Not at all. It’s great. But I can’t recall a mainstream UK news service selecting a black artist for VO before, unless I’m wrong. So it’s significant.

Your post was written poorly if that’s what you meant to convey. Cop the criticism and move on.
