Too much white. COVID-19 emergency ward vibes.
Shepherd Smith left last year, but the studio remains - now called out as Studio H.
Staffers are still at those giant touchscreens - theyâre not actors.
Yeah, sure.
A compilation of current news opens from Ireland (both the Republic and Northern Ireland):
One of my favorite cheesy news themes from WFMZ 69 News in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Itâs like a parody on the Simpsonâs
68 people watching 69 News.
Seriously though, that is really appalling.!
Believe it or not, theyâre 21 years on and running with that theme. The most recent set of opens are cut a bit oddly with the open shorter than before.
and they choose to call themselves
âWFMZ Channel 69â ?
Wow
Nice.
The ownerâs name was Dick!
The callsign they chose apparently stands for Family Minded Zone - arbitrarily and with a few exceptions, all US TV and radio stations start with W or K, depending on if theyâre East or West of the Mississippi River, respectively - and their early programming reflected that as it was mostly religious. The channel 69 allotment was assigned by the FCC.
They couldâve changed their channel number with the DTV switch as a few stations have done, but, as with most others, WFMZ didnât want to disrupt a well-established brand association if they didnât have to - thank goodness for PSIP.
â69 is on your mindâ would make for a good positioner.
But are they journalists?
Yes, they are digital producers. Not sure in the current format, but when Smith hosted, he would check in on stories his producers were working on at their stations.

A collection of news opens from Bosnia-Herzegovina. Because of the countryâs unusual political and ethnic situation, there is a multitude of national, subnational, regional, and local stations â despite a population of just 3.3 million:
Something similar happened in Slovenia 12 years ago:

Slightly off-color for the thread, but an Australian call-up via an odd lock-up:
No, they actually just go by ABC 6 News. Funny note: not the first 4pm news in the market. The same station had a short-lived 4pm news over a decade ago. But hey, no one has tried since!
Well, WJAR channel 10 did carry a 3pm newscast for a literal week to fill in a syndie carriage gap over a year or two ago.
