TVA, Canada (French); morning news, 2020:
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has suspended local and province-wide television news bulletins due to SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19. All stations will simulcast the CBC News Network at 6pm. Local radio will still continue.
One would think that this is precisely the kind of situation during which a public service broadcaster would increase local news coverage (if feasible).
This is what the 6 p.m. simulcasts of the CBC News Network look like – in this case, the station is in the Pacific Time Zone, so it gets to carry The National:
The CBC, from what I understand, switches nearly all of its local news shows from Toronto - much like how 10 Melbourne switches shows in Adelaide and Perth.
Meanwhile, the CBC has retained its local news in Canada’s far north, where it is the only provider of local news:
And here’s their Inuktituk-language local news:
In France, France 2 and Franceinfo TV aired a joint morning program from Franceinfo’s studios:
It’s not and with social isolation, there is less and less local news to cover since everyone is staying home.
Right, but much of the news happens at the provincial rather than the federal level – that’s why Canada’s commercial stations, for instance, have decided to maintain their local news commitment.
In the U.S., many stations are now increasing their local news output – often expanding 30-minute newscasts to 60 minutes. People are interested in hearing what their governor and mayor heave to say about the crisis, how local businesses are dealing with the shutdown, what school districts are planning for the weeks ahead, and so on.
And speaking of Austria, here’s a brand-new compilation of national, regional, and local news opens from that country:
And here’s a similar compilation from Sweden:
The footage used for the ORF Regional News opt-out intros look stunning.
Looks like Reshet 13 in Israel has a new look. The news department is inherited from the former Channel 10 Israel after its merger with Reshet last year.
Reshet used to share airtime with Keshet on Channel 2, until it was shut down and the two companies were given their own channels. They continued to share news programs until the merger.
That set is really nice but hate that arrangement of the theme. Previous version from 2012 was better in my books:
Al Arabiya also has a new look – and a huge new set:
Sometimes I wonder if the practicality and set up of the newsroom actually works.
Looks great on TV, but would you really want to work in an office like that?
Also, the long walk in… to the newsdesk seem a bit of an overkill.

It makes me feel sick with all the spinning!
Are they really working or just actors…?
Do they still have this set up?
