And here’s a similar compilation of Global’s local newscasts:
Staying in Canada but traveling back to 1998, here’s a morning show from VTV in Vancouver – callsign CIVT, now a part of the CTV network – hosted from a (very empty) city street:
Special openers for rolling news during and after the district council elections in Hong Kong.
CHEK from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, serving Vancouver Island, with a special tag marking the station’s 10th anniversary as an independent (i.e., unaffiliated) station:
English-language morning news in a mostly French-speaking city; Global Montreal, Quebec, Canada:
It’s 60/40 around the area, but yeah, English TV market has fairly tepid competition. CTV has most of the share and this is the only local English morning news after City tried and failed.
You’ll also NEVER see English language news out and about if you’re in an airport, or a waiting room, etc - the market is almost solely private homes which would also have an impact.
Bit of an odd question, but does anyone know if some of the NY local TV stations deliberately cut their feed for a split second when the second plane hit? (at 14:56)
No.
Their broadcasting antennae were on the roof of the WTC. It’s more likely the plane hitting the building caused some interference.
Thanks, I was wondering this for a while. I thought the only interference was when the tower collapsed.
Good Morning America from 1978; the program was created by a producer named Bob Shanks – the same Shanks who briefly (and unsuccessfully) ran Ten in the late 1980s:
From Canada, bits and pieces of BC1, Global’s news channel for British Columbia:
Grrrrr!! ;( Virtual set! I don’t like them anywhere, but they especially don’t work on a news channel!
Terrible. Looks like vomit all of it.
I guess at least BC has a local news Channel. More than we have
If you dislike virtual sets, it’s a good thing you don’t live in Germany:
Unfortunately, that is Global’s M.O. - greenscreens and robocams at all of their major local stations for the most part.
The Al Jazeera English revamp is pretty noice
I feel this network would double viewership aground the world if they changed their name, logo and brand. And became geographic agnostic.
