Hunted

Found this episode more of a chore than the first three, mainly as it focused so much on Derek & Courtney who we didn’t know and they weren’t really playing in the spirit of the game, instead exploiting the “secret” rule that the game pauses overnight to return somewhere they’d just been found knowing the Hunters couldn’t get them then trying to do the same the next night by hiding out in a park until the rules stated they couldn’t be caught.

That was a happy capture - though the first female team of ground hunters were pretty awful just shouting “stop” and expecting them to cave in. Also with that overnight rule not being known to viewers of the show who haven’t stumbled on the behind the scenes info it made little sense the Hunters wouldn’t stake it out till the next morning and that the fugitives would return.

P.S. Damn 10 for putting a promo in the cre epiorner throughout the entire episode having aired the first three without them.

Total people number for episode one was 1,217,000 up 42% on overnight.

If I remember correctly, the promo I saw the other night didn’t show the capture of Derek and Courtney.

I’m enjoying this more and more as it goes along. It feels like it’s getting faster paced and those scenes of that team being chased through the alley way was pretty intense.

I feel like the timeline of days though is not exact. I haven’t been tracking but it seems to have jumped ahead a bit. obviously a bit edited out of order to make it easier to follow and is likely why in the HQ they are always wearing the same clothes for continuity (I guess similar to why they do it on The Voice).

Although there are still a couple of teams that are getting very minimal airtime. Not sure if it’s because they haven’t had much luck tracing them or if it means they are likely there until the end.

I was speaking to someone on the weekend that’s friend was contacted by one of the contestants during filming. He said that the show was filmed in March and also mentioned the overnight rule - apparently it was a 6pm rule where they had to be at the location they were staying at by that point (as there would be no hunters out beyond that time). He had some interesting insights which I’ll be interested to see if plays out.

The hunters have the power to freeze the credit cards the production issued the fugitives? That seems like cheating.

Anybody with half a brain would have emptied their account at an ATM in the CBD on day 1.

Isn’t that another rule? they can’t.

Transit Centre Tip-Off.
Captured: Brittany And Karen, SA.

With 13 days remaining, the Hunters celebrated a huge win tonight with the capture of aunt and niece team, Karen and Brittany, who had cleverly evaded the team of Ground Hunters before a public tip-off led to their capture.

On the run in the coastal town of Wonthaggi, Karen and Brittany were shocked to discover wanted posters displayed at the bus station and in the town. Determined to avoid capture, they boarded a bus to Phillip Island.

Having made their way successfully to Phillip Island, Karen and Brittany waited for a ferry to make their next move, unaware the Hunters had been tipped off on their location by their bus driver. As Team Alpha closed in, Karen and Brittany realised they had misread the ferry timetable and were waiting for a cancelled service. Not content to sit on the jetty for a further two hours like sitting ducks, they left and headed to a campsite, avoiding capture by the narrowest of margins.

The next morning Karen and Brittany made a second attempt to leave Phillip Island, but as they waited for a bus, they were spotted by the bus driver from the previous day, who made a second call to the tip-off line, leading to Karen and Brittany’s capture.

After a brief celebration, the HQ Hunters were back on the task of chasing the remaining 10 Fugitives on the run in Victoria, with just 11 days left.

Those investigators must smell after being in the same clothes for 3 weeks.

Except that would make a very boring TV show if everyone just did that and just went bush. Obviously there are some rules on things they can do - like how much they can withdraw in a transaction, how long they can stay at a location etc.

Much more enjoyable episode on Monday - helped being shorter of course and focusing on three teams viewers are a bit more invested in.

The synopsis for this Sunday’s show kind of gives away the outcome of tonight’s (Tuesday) episode.

Does it really? I thought it was pretty obvious that with the exception of the premiere, a team gets captured in each episode, which would leave just two teams for the final episode.

Here’s why the Hunters where the same clothes (note from the UK version)

Why Hunted’s hunters wore the same clothes for 28 days and 10 episodes – reality blurred.

This show is moving on a slow pace. Six episodes in and we only reached half way (day 11). How will the remaining three episodes cover the next 11 days?

Here is the wanted poster for Karen and Brittany from last night’s episode.

The link on the bottom of the poster goes to the show’s website at EndemolShine which has the rules and conditions for a public reward of $200 for each clue to Hunted HQ. It also lists the deadline of March 15 this year which is the final day of the 3-week filming period.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time For Unlucky Fugitives

Captured: Sonny-Joe And Grace, NSW

With 11 days of the hunt remaining, we’re almost at the halfway point in Australia’s biggest game of hide and seek.

Tonight, two Ground Hunter teams were inching closer to Puneet and Kris, who had been tracked to the regional town of Harcourt North. But it was a case of wrong place, wrong time for Fugitives Sonny-Joe and Grace, whose time on the run came to an end.

With resources focused on the hunt for Jake and Rob after they popped their heads up in Ballarat, unbeknown to anyone, another team, Sonny-Joe and Grace, were hiding out at a nearby caravan park.

Quirky Sonny-Joe and Grace, whose method of going off-grid had so far stumped the Hunters, planned to leave Ballarat by train. They knew it was a risky decision but felt confident in their choice. After all, their taunts – a string of fake hotel bookings – had misdirected Hunters all the way to the Gippsland region of Victoria, over 250kms to the East.

Well aware of Sonny-Joe and Grace’s decoys, the Hunters were happy to play the long game - if they continued to follow up all leads, their hard work and patience would result in a capture.

Ground Hunter Team Alpha arrived at Ballarat train station just as Fugitives Jake and Rob boarded a train, resulting in a near miss. But just a few minutes later - in a spectacular display of good fortune, Team Alpha stumbled upon Sonny-Joe and Grace in a nearby street, disguising themselves as tradies as they prepared to catch a train out of town.

A foot chase ensued before the pair were captured to riotous applause in Hunted HQ. Sonny-Joe and Grace were proud of their time on the run, comforted by the fact that their capture was purely down to luck.

The episodes are timed to approx 1 episode per capture. Any quicker would be very rushed. So the time taken to capture the remaining teams will increase. And with less teams in play more screen time can be given to each team allowing more days per episode.

Sonny-Joe and Grace was simply unlucky. Had they not been spotted with a camera operator leaving a friend’s car by Team Alpha at Ballarat station, the pair would have been mistaken for any other backpackers.

This is pretty much the problem of the premise of the whole show, isn’t it? Nobody can really hide if they’re accompanied by a camera operator.

As they say though if you’re close enough to see the camera you’re close enough to catch the fugitives. It’s a necessary evil.

And if they catch them all it doesn’t necessarily go on for another 10 days.

If they don’t catch them based on the UK version I suspect the last show will pretty much just be the last 24 hours (depends how many are left).

It’s also quite common in the UK version for teams to find themselves split up in the closing stages.
