Hubbl

Apart from the fact it was hacked massively last year.

I wonder if it’s related to credential sharing and a list of usernames and passwords has been circulating and it’s dated in March (the April date being when Hubbl became aware of it)

These statements are often written by legal people who don’t live in the real world - just because it said someone might have had access to some information doesn’t necessarily mean they did, it’s an arse covering exercise to say they may have

Stan now available on Hubbl

Stan will bring thousands of hours of premium content into the Hubbl universe.

Australia’s newest transformative TV technology, Hubbl, has confirmed Stan is now available on the platform. Joining a lineup of 16 global and local apps, Stan will add thousands of hours of entertainment including Stan Originals across all genres, as well as exclusive TV series, iconic series, movies and sport to the Hubbl experience.

Hubbl makes it easy to access your favourite shows, simplifying search and how you continue watching content. With Stan integrated into the platform, users won’t need to go in and out of the app to discover what to watch next and can create personalised watchlists simply by clicking the ā€˜+’ button on the remote.

Dani Simpson, Executive Director of Hubbl, says, ā€œWe’re thrilled to be adding Stan to the stellar line up of premium apps available on Hubbl, providing users with even more choice and convenience through a simplified entertainment experience.ā€

Seems the Hubbl (as seen during ad on Channel 7) only has ABC, SBS and Channel 7 as local channels

What do you reckon the odds are that 9 & 10 are showing the same ad but with different ā€˜omissions’ on the local channels screen part of the ad?

Here’s what it looks like on other networks - no omissions.

As part of dumping foxtel i brought 2 Hubbl boxes - they are not the greatest (I was considering a hubbl glass but thats not going to happen) but they get the job done

Has anyone had issues with it being stuck in the update mode? I took my Hubbl to Melbourne with me and it worked on the first nights but then I got a technical error and so I decided to do a hard reset . The problem is now instead of selecting the wifi so it can download any updates it’s stuck on here on this updating software it will only take a moment and the after about ten minutes it asks me to reset the remote. Did they and the process of updating and the remote keeps to be in a loop.

The free Hubbl I ordered a few months ago finally arrived.

I actually like the premise of the device - when you bundle the separate Foxtel-specific subscriptions, you’re paying around $50p/m which is similar to the Satellite service, however you’re also getting streaming access alongside the linear channels.

The interface is quite easy to navigate.
The TV guide looks very similar to Foxtel.

Setup was a nightmare. Had to hard-reboot the device a few times because it got stuck loading my account or connecting to WiFi.
Then linking all the FTA catchup services… another nightmare - having to create/link accounts for all the separate services is just so time consuming (although optional) - but this is not a Hubbl-specific problem.

Once all linked, using the BVOD streams of the FTA channels is painless.
It does support aeriel too.

The device isn’t for me though.
I don’t pay for any SVOD service. No separate app store so I can’t link Plex.
Plus I use HDHomeRun to stream my linear channels locally… so having that option would’ve been nice instead of having to rely on the BVOD streams.

The only real selling point I see with this is having access to a linear TV guide of all your combined services like Foxtel.
You are otherwise better off buying a cheap Android TV stick like Google TV which has infinitely more capability.

Hopefully Hubbl gets better over time and gets more integrated like Fetch is but for now I would agree.

Must have been unlucky. I didn’t have one issue setting mine up.

Hubbl glass 55 inch is down to $1145 at Harvey Norman - $250 off.

The 65 inches down to $1295 - $300 off.

I’ve ordered the 55 as a bedroom tv

Interesting the documentation coming with the Hubbl Glass references a presumably scrapped 43 inch model (model LT043A-04-FXTL)

Let us know how you go! I haven’t heard feedback from real world users apart from a tech journalist.

Initial thoughts (picked it up at 11am) keeping in mind i have 2 hubbl boxes in the house so the software is not new to me.

It’s massive - you forget you big 55 inches is. I’m glad I didn’t have both my kids with me because I had to fold down the backseat of my i30 to make it fit. I debated between the 55 and the 65 - i’m glad i went smaller.

It came in two boxes - the bigger one being the panel and the smaller being the base. The base was annoying as you need to put it together- it came with around 10 screws and some plastic spacers but it was fiddly and annoying. One piece of advice I’d give is that if you’re buying one - have an electric screwdriver or a drill with an Allen key bit. Putting it together was frustrating.

Once the base was assembled I liked how the box on the panel just folded away into multiple parts making it easy to attach.

The base is smaller than the panel. I was worried I’d need to buy a new table as it’s replacing a 32ā€ tv but it fits fine on the same table, even with some overhang of the panel on each side.

theres 3 HDMI ports which i like, but i have issue with the location of the ports - they are at the back of the panel at the bottom making it hard to access.

the panel is HEAVY - 32 Kgs, so if your wall mounting keep this in mind.

Power on from standby is quick - instant on.

sound is quite good - its in a bedroom so it doesn’t need to be crystal clear 5.1 but its loud, clear and understandable.

the display is fine - I’m currently watching the West Coast Eagles v Brisbane Lions match in 4k (I’m on a superloop 1Gig HFC connection) and there’s no tearing or stuttering on Kayo.

i do have some minor quibbles with the software - a few times when watching archived material (one was elimination chamber 2024) i got a technical error and nothing played. there was nothing i could do to fix this.

i would also like to be able to exclude streaming services from the front page - i don’t have amazon or netflix but it still shows me content from those providers.

you can access the local channels (including the radio channels not on the hubbl guide) by selecting the local channels input i found it via trial and error.

Documentation could be so much better. All that was supplied was a wallmount template, a leaflet called Important Safety and Product Information, a warranty guide and an EULA. no user guide or quick start guide - even the instructions to assemble were printed on the inside of the base box in white (on natural card making it hard to see)

I ended up with a lot of cardboard at the end of the assembly - so much i ended up taking it to the tip (luckily Brisbane city council don’t charge to dump recyclables)

signing into all the providers was annoying (each FTA provider needs a separate sign in) - but short of keeping this logon info as part of your hubbl account (which makes me very wary) i’m not sure how to fix this.

I’d like to see more apps - TuneIn and youtube for example.

if using in a bedroom i’d recommend turning off the feature that turns it on when it detects motion (i’d probably turn it off anyway - could be annoying it turn on because you walked into the room)

in summery - there’s plenty of potential and there and some minor software updates would make this even better but i’m very happy with the purchase.
