I’ll be surprised if we don’t see late night repeats or on a multi channel sometime this year.
Guys, don’t stress. I’m sure this game show will be revived by 10 in coming years.
How is that possible as they’ve been running repeats??
Eddie saying goodbye? The producers probably just chose a recent episode where he says “goodbye” instead of saying "see you next time’?
WWTBAM still a thing here in France it seems. Would like to think it’ll (or Hot Seat) will return in to Oz one day.
I noticed in Greece that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is also popular in prime time. They actually have a lot of locally made game shows currently running:
The Chase
Wheel of Fortune
5x5 (which is Family Feud but uses groups, so not limited to families)
Rouk Zouk (based on a German format)
Switch (based on a Belgian format)
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Could Sale of the Century work in this day and age?
If done properly, yes. But in hindsight, probably not. It needs to air 5 nights a week (with no repeats on Fridays), and Nine are not going to budge with A Current Affair at 7pm. And might be “too expensive” for an afternoon game show.
I was just curious since 10 are bringing back Wheel of Fortune.
Agree, with “carry over champions”, Sale is not a show that could with random scheduling like Hot Seat.
I don’t think Nine ever aired a repeat episode of Sale.
I remember when Nine had the original, condensed half-hour version of Millionaire that aired for only one week in 2004; can anyone remember if Monday afternoon’s end contestant rollovered into that evening’s episode or into Tuesday afternoon’s?
The 5:30pm episodes were supposed to shore up Nine’s Sydney news ratings (which by that point were starting to erode as viewers switched to Seven and Ian Ross) but the experiment failed.
IIRC, the following week TPIR expanded to a one-hour format.
Pretty sure they aired classic episodes in the late 80s at one point?
Before the start of the 1991 season, Nine aired three weeks of ‘classic’ episodes. This included the 1985 Australian/American Challenge.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that Greece has Who Wants To Be A Millionaire still going. The current host is Grigoris Arnaoutoglou since 2022 who is a bit like Eddie Everywhere. He is an actor who has appeared in a number of scripted TV series and movies and hosted TV shows. He currently also hosts a late night chat show called The 2Night Show.
Just discovered that Greece also had a version of Millionaire Hot Seat with a different host Yannis Zouganelis. It ran for two seasons 2014-2016. I read that the Millionaire Hot Seat spin-off was an Italian concept in 2008 called Extraordinary Edition but Australia came up with the Hot Seat name in 2009 and it was used in more than 10 other countries.
