Such as an incredible (if true - I’ve never been able to properly verify this) story about getting lost as a little kid during the Sydney 2000 Olympics Torch Relay in Campbelltown? Or being able to do an impromptu “Macarena” performance?!
Unfortunately I don’t have any life stories to tell that a national TV audience is likely to find particularly interesting, so you’re highly unlikely to ever see me become a contestant on Hot Seat!
It’s a common trap to believe that a story needs to be something that happened to you as well. When I auditioned I told a story about how I have a phobia of character costumes (which is true, but the story was highly embellished). The story got a laugh and kept people engaged for 60 seconds, more so than “I saw Shane Warne at the airport last year”.
I guess my advice would be to come up with anything which is at least tangentially related to you and would keep someone else entertained for 60 seconds. I spoke to the producer and only the producer and that also seemed to work for me.
My bad, I heard Eddie acknowledge where they were and all the Tourism bodies, support, The Star GC at the beginning of the episode and assumed it was the first as it sounded that way.
