Former Home And Away Star Alea O’Shea Reveals Devastating Diagnosis At Just 25
Channel 5 have dropped Home and Away from the main channel in the UK. It will only be shown online and on 5Star from January.
If it wasn’t for the life of the series deal 5’s previous owner signed, they would have ditched it entirely long before they dumped Neighbours.
But surely they would be able to drop the contract if it is no longer making them money.
That’s certainly what I’ve said, or certainly get a massive reductive in how much they pay if the show is getting lower ratings and or %shares. It also seems like they must which is why 5 have been slowly bumping it off the schedule over the last 2 years.
Otherwise why would they now pay for replacement programs for Home and Aways main channel slots.
So what does this mean for H&A in the UK?
I thought this was clearly explained.
- Ratings are down so it has been dropped from the Channel 5’s main channel.
- It will now only screen on their multichannel 5 Star.
- It will still be on their streaming service as usual.
My apologies JBar.
I wonder how long this decision will last.
This change is final. They’re not going back from this. It’s a reflection of a general drop in interest in soapies on linear channels.
Channel 5 axed Neighbours in 2022.
Channel 4 dropped Hollyoaks in 2024. They moved it to their multichannel E4 and reduced it from five days a week to three days a week. They also trimmed episodes to 20 minutes..
The BBC axed Holby City in 2022 and River City will end in 2026.
In America, Days of Our Lives was dropped from NBC in 2022 and is only on streaming service Peacock. There are only four daytime soaps on linear channels now compared to the peak in 1981 when there were twenty daytime soaps on television.
In Australia, have we beaten 16 ( around 1989-1990) on FTA
10 (Channel Ten)
Neighbours
E Street
Another World
Santa Barbara
The Bold And The Beautiful
General Hospital
Dallas
9 (Channel Nine)
Days Of Our Lives
Young And The Restless
Dynasty
Family And Friends (1990)
7 (Channel Seven)
Home And Away
A Country Practice
Rituals
Generations
The Power The Passion (1989)
ABC (Channel 2)
If you’re going to count night time soaps then you also had Knots Landing (and probably Falcon Crest) in late slots on 7.
Along with the prime time return on 19 January an encore of last year’s final will be shown at 12:00 PM on that Monday.
I was so behind I’m still catching up even after watching 4 or 5 episodes a day. I find the inconsistent scheduling of episodes annoying so I watch it on 7Plus. Ie some weeks have 3 sometimes 4 episodes on Thursday sometimes just 1 sometimess they move the multiple episodes to some other day in the week so you end up missing episodes.
I am catching up 2 eps left (1 being the hour long one )
Is Sarah Wiseman putting on that accent to sound more Aussie being a Kiwi as it sounds weird her voice after hearing her on Shortland St.
Have you not seen her in A Place To Call Home?
Nope but I heard she was on it .
Only ever saw her on Shortland St.
All episodes of A Place To Call Home are on 7+. Check out Sarah Wiseman and her ex-husband Craig Hall who was also in H&A recently.
For the last 2 years.. I attempt to watch Home and Away.. start forgetting within a month… then try to catchup on episodes..
I left the 2024 season around the July/August episodes (after the Bronte saga)
Left the 2025 season in May..
As you can see.. I can’t get into series. Watched Hunted in 2024.. then it got cancelled.
Watched MKR Last Year.. started to forget about the show in the final 5 weeks.
As you can clearly see - I’m awful at staying on a series
All happens because of the damn cliffhangers from the finales (like the 2023 Finale, 2024 Finale, 2025 Finale).
Home and Away returns tonight on Seven
Who will survive the trainwreck horror?
Summer Bay is plunged into chaos when Home and Away returns to screens tonight at 7.00pm on Seven and 7plus, picking up immediately after last year’s jaw-dropping season final.
In one of the most dramatic cliffhangers in Home and Away’s 38-year history, multiple lives were left hanging in the balance over the summer break after the party train transporting several of the Bay’s residents to a music festival in Broken Hill derailed inside a tunnel.
Among the passengers caught in the chaos were Justin (James Stewart), Mackenzie (Emily Weir), Remi (Adam Rowland), Abigail (Hailey Pinto), Dana (Ally Harris), Sonny (Ryan Bown), Lacey (Sophea Pennington), Jo (Maddison Brown) and Eddie (Stephen Madsen). Who will make it home to the Bay?
When Home and Away returns tonight, rescue operations are in full swing as authorities race to save those trapped in the wreckage. With the structure of the train threatening to collapse, every second is critical. David (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor), Cash (Nicholas Cartwright), Levi (Tristan Gorey) and Tane (Ethan Browne) are all at the crash site, navigating the chaos and carnage in a frantic bid to save lives – with their own loved ones still trapped on the derailed train.
As time runs out, Tane takes matters into his own hands, defying police orders to enter the tunnel and rush to the aid of those still trapped. Will his heroic actions come at a tragic cost?
Plus, 2026 will also see the highly anticipated return of fan favourites Brax (Stephen Peacocke) and Ricky (Bonnie Sveen), who are back on screen soon for Home and Away’s upcoming Western Australia event, made in partnership with Tourism Western Australia.
Get ready for one of the biggest years in Summer Bay history.
