Home and Away reels in the wake of shock collapse
Summer Bay’s darkest days may be ahead this week, as Felicity’s (Jacqui Purvis) loved ones face the unimaginable.
After a day spent celebrating her brother’s new engagement in the sun, Felicity retreated to Salt to continue the festivities with her nearest and dearest, including former flame Tane Parata (Ethan Browne).
But, while watching the newly engaged Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) and Eden (Stephanie Panozzo) share a sweet slow dance, Felicity’s vision suddenly became blurry and she abruptly fell to the ground.
This week, in episodes that will have the nation on the edge of their seats, every second is critical as Felicity is rushed to hospital where Dr Bree Cameron (Juliet Godwin) desperately fights to save her life.
Keeping vigil at a comatose Felicity’s hospital bedside, Cash, Eden and Tane are praying for a miracle. But when the medical situation escalates, the chances of Felicity ever waking up grow slim.
As the sobering reality sets in, Cash’s world comes crashing down. How do you say goodbye to someone you thought would be in your life forever?
Free-spirited Felicity Newman burst into the Bay in 2021. Always up for a good time, Felicity was a friend to many. Her turbulent three years living in Summer Bay included a relationship blossoming into marriage, followed by a messy separation; a harrowing car crash; a devastating sexual assault; and more recently a doomed relationship with a River Boy.
Tune in for one of Home and Away’s most heartbreaking farewells ever.
For some reason this morning I wanted to find out how long Flick had been on Home and Away as sometimes you lose track with these shows.
If it’s correct that she dies on Monday then maybe it’s been deliberately done for that date as it’s exactly 3 years since her first appearance on the 19th of August. Potentially a coincidence but nicely done all the same.
The show will miss the character as she’s been one of the main parts of the last 3 years with some big storylines. I hope we see Jacqui pop up elsewhere as I think she’s a pretty strong actor/actress which can’t be said of everyone in soaps across the world.
Maybe a slight coincidence but it makes sense because her contract would have ended around the same date she started. So, a three year contract exactly.
If Flick dies on next Monday’s episode, then I wonder if it was Jacqui Purvis’s decision to leave the show when her three year contract was up, or that the producers did not renew her contract.
Yes it was her decision. She wants to be an international actor according to an interview with her released today.
The actress is OK but her character on the show is annoying and probably had its time however so it may not have been her decision to leave.
As I mentioned in the post right above yours, it was her decision.
“I’ve had an incredible time on the show. Some of the best years of my life. However, I knew I wanted an international career, so, I had to make the decision to leave and take the plunge,” she tells us.
UPDATE: Orpheus has launched an appeal.
I felt sad for Tane . The guy who plays him does a great job.
It’s like watching a real-life soap.
He got bail.
@TV.Cynic Could you please summarise this article if you don’t mind?
Thank you!
Most people go to Hollywood in search of fame. Rachael Carpani went there to escape it.
After filming a string of small roles in shows including All Saints and Home And Away, Carpani hit the big time when she was cast as teenager Jodi Fountain McLeod on TV drama McLeod’s Daughters.
Overwhelmed by all the attention, Carpani recalls going to her agent and threatening to quit if she wasn’t sent to the “acting equivalent of Siberia. I said: ‘I don’t want to be famous! Earning a living would be nice. I adore ‘action’ to ‘cut’, but everything else – the networking, the hobnobbing, the dealing with sleazy directors – I just don’t want any of it,’” Carpani tells Stellar.
“Without missing a beat, she looked at me and said, ‘I’m sending you to Hollywood, love. No-one knows who you are there, and they’ll never care.’”
“In 2001, you didn’t announce to a crew of 80 men, ‘I’m sorry, I’ve got endometriosis. I feel like I’m being stabbed in the stomach. I’ll need five minutes,’” Carpani explains.
So she found ways to secretly manage her condition.
The actor is eager to share the wisdom of her experience with her young co-stars on Home And Away, where she has been filming a guest role. Not that they need much coaching. “They’re more empowered,” she marvels. “They have more information at their fingertips. The entire culture changed. The young men I work with now have so much respect for women.”
On the long-running soap Carpani plays Claudia – a newcomer to Summer Bay who makes waves in the Morgan household. The role struck a chord with Carpani straight away because “Louise Bowes [previously a scriptwriter on McLeod’s Daughters] was at the helm of designing and creating Claudia, and she makes it far more real. I know we’re talking about a fun soap here where people get kidnapped and people blow things up and crazy things happen, but there was a realness to this character.”
The article also says Rachael Carpani’s character Claudia will make her debut on August 29.
Jessica Redmayne who plays Harper has been forced to plead with H&A fans to stop abusing her on social media. She’s had to explain that she’s an actor not one of the writers on the show. Very sad that people blur the line between a character and the portrayer but it seems that’s what has happened.
That said, following on from the tremendous storyline about the passing of Felicity I think the writers really messed up with the whole pregnancy storyline. For Harper, a social worker, to wait 13 weeks to tell Tane because ‘it was never the right time’ was ridiculous. And for her to blurt it out at Felicity’s funeral was just cliche soapy rubbish.
She shouldn’t have to explain anything . But if people are that stupid . . .
Reminds me when Julie Mullins got a lot of hate mail for her portray of Julie Martins accusing her of being racist in real life after her character accused the Lims family of eating dogs .
