Home and Away

Based purely on speculation from her, based on the UK experience, which have reduced all their soaps to two days a week to ensure they stay on screen longer.

The article says they were behind with the bushfires? I though that meant they had more episodes to show? Or did she mean behind in filming and usually are ahead several months in advance?

Home and Away episodes are filmed months in advance (I hear it is six months). Sam Frost is implying that the recent bushfires across NSW means the crew was not able to film as many outdoor scenes as possible, so they are falling behind in filming schedules.

She also said that they had fallen behind in filming scenes because a couple of cast members had to take time off because of some ā€œfamily issuesā€. I don’t think this has been reported anywhere in the media.

I’d say Seven will, if they haven’t already, be having a few words with Sam. She’s spoken out of turn abit in that interview.

I suppose it’s one way to get out of your contract when you don’t want to be on the show any more. Reveal your cast members’ secrets. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Exactly what I was referring to.

Not her place at all and while I’m sure it didn’t come from a malicious place she needs to be careful with what she says. Sites like Digital Spy will run with that and create unnecessary speculation.

I think I already know who the two cast members are. There was a hint in a TV Week story about a cast member who was written out for a few weeks last year and there’s another we know has some ongoing family issues with an ex-partner and child. It’s just that this interview highlights those absences now.

Georgie Parker also suggested in an interview with Mel Doyle on The Latest that H&A may need to go back to say 2 nights a week on air.

I don’t think Seven is quite as reliant on Home and Away as the UK networks are on their soaps, and likely has twice as much in the can. Even if they just air one episode a night four nights a week that would likely just about get them through to the end of the ratings season if they have close to six months in the can.

Maybe BB 3 nights a week and H&A the other 2 for a while? Just thinking out loud about possibilities…

They need to leave Home and Away alone. Double episodes twice a week isn’t the answer. It’s not designed to be viewed like a one hour drama, which is why the doubles and triples on Thursday have always been widely panned by fans.

In my post above I was thinking single episodes if they are running out…

I personally believe it’s better for them to run out naturally and then go for a larger break then spread them out. It’s all about the pacing of storylines and it just wouldn’t work as a twice a week show.

But they’re not running out. They have a backlog of 6 months of episodes. If their production break gets close to 4 months, then they could start limiting the eps.

Good point

I was just going by the comments of Georgie Parker who mentioned dropping back to a couple of episodes a week.

Can you imagine Mack still trying to get into Ari’s pants in 6 weeks time? How boring. At least airing them naturally we’ll only have to endure it for a week or so!

Sounds like the pace of Days of our Lives…
