MAFS I guess.
Watching Holey Moley for the first time through Gogglebox, no wonder the show is flopping. It looks horrendous.
The highlights special has been cut back to 60 minutes. Looks like they couldn’t find enough content after all
Caught up with this week’s episodes yesterday. Hayden was unlucky, he made it across the hazard in both Uranus and Fowl Play, but lost the final round.
Should the show be renewed for a second season I hope Seven will re-sign Olympia as a reporter to replace Sonia.
I reckon it’s unlikely, but given Seven has already put too much investment into the set and other things I think they need to give it one more go.
The show in its current format is too dragged out, too cheesy, too repetitive and the contestants look like they come from the same casting agency that casted Game of Games.
If they were to give it another go I’d have them run it on Sundays only and 90 minutes in duration. They should keep the run short (let’s say 5-6 episodes max, 3-4 heats plus semi-final and grand final) and cut the cringeworthy BS that is clearly taking the piss out of the show. Promote it like event TV like how Nine promotes Ninja Warrior.
Replace Riggle (who’s good but seems out of place on Seven), Shirvington and Kruger with Roy and HG plus Olympia Valance. Change up the course to have one final hole at the end of the course so that the contestants have to navigate through multiple obstacles under time pressure to win.
P.S. I’m hoping Seven does give it another go because it has the potential to do really well but Seven missed this opportunity this time. Plus I’d rather they give this another go instead of reviving yet another old format to fit their retro schedule.
Nothing says “flop” like replacing the whole cast for it’s second series. The show isn’t Ninja Warrior so the comedic tone is the right approach rather than making it out to be a major sporting comp.
As you say it’s mainly making episodes too long and too frequent which is the problem - but also if the audience don’t like it they don’t like it, whether they air it three nights a week for 90 minutes or once a week for half an hour.
If they are committed to a second series due to the set up costs I agree it needs a shorter run (likely 9 episodes I’d have thought) and I wouldn’t be surprised if it sat on the shelf all of next year to air towards the end of the ratings year.
I agree Seven should keep the run short but also that the holes should be stand alone (not sharing the same green or water hazard as I posted previously) so that each heat can be filmed on a single night, rather than having contestants playing across 2-3 nights to complete their heat, due to the time spent converting one hole to the next.
I’ve caught the odd replay and it’s actually okay. But each episode is too long and the series is too long. Tighten it up, reduce the number of shows per week and it could be a better performer. If it’s reputation hasn’t been ruined already by this series
Holey Moley Grand Final field decided
Prawn farmer Daniel Thusberg nets final place in Grand Final
Daniel Thusberg is a North Queensland prawn farmer, ring card boy, and now, Holey Moley finalist, after a knock-out performance hooked him the last spot in Monday night’s Holey Moley Grand Final.
Wearing his ring card costume - nothing more than a skimpy pair of black budgie smugglers - the long-haired left-hander showed some serious putting skills, delighting the crowd with handstands, hair flicks and somersaults while dominating the obstacles, destroying Polcano, slaying Dragon’s Breath and proving he was no chicken on Fowl Play.
“I’m going to win this. I’m number one! I won’t be holding up the cards, I’m going to be holding up a cheque for $100,000,” said Daniel on his big win.
Trash-talking his fellow competitors throughout the night, Daniel produced solid form to back-up his fighting words. Going head-to-head with winemaker Ben Guilfoyle on Polcano, Daniel achieved a competition first by landing successfully on the pole.
After displaying one of the best runs in the competition and becoming a firm crowd favourite, Daniel made his way to the final round, meeting Emma Guest and Dylan Evans on Fowl Play.
In a nail-biting finish, Daniel scored the winning putt and celebrated with an almighty yell as he donned the prestigious plaid jacket, was presented with the golden putter and booked his place in the Holey Moley Grand Final.
And now, the time has finally come. Tomorrow night the Holey Moley Grand Final is here! After all the big hits and near misses, victory is in sight for 10 returning champions, who will battle it out over three epic rounds of mini golf. One monster $100,000 putt on Greg Norman’s Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee will separate our champion from the pack.
Join Greg Norman, Sonia Kruger, Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington as we crown Australia’s Holey Moley champion, Monday 7.30pm on Channel 7.
Holey Moley! $100,000 putt on tonight’s Grand Final
Greg Norman’s genius Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee to decide winner
The scene is set for a truly defining moment in sporting history when Australia’s first Holey Moley Champion is crowned in tonight’s hotly contested Holey Moley Grand Final.
After all the big hits, near misses and clutch putts, the smell of victory and freshly-mown green is in the air. The 10 returning champs are the cream of the crop and ready to compete over three epic rounds of extreme Grand Final mini golf.
The final three contenders left standing will putt for $100,000 on Greg Norman’s yet-to-be revealed masterpiece, The Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee.
With the Grand Final hole a heavily guarded secret until tonight’s competition, Holey Moley resident golf pro, Greg Norman, remains tight-lipped on what players and fans can expect from Nefer-Tee-Tee, saying only: “It’s a little different to the plans.”

That comes down to the editing though. Sets have to be changed for broadcast all the time and the programme put together in the edit should disguise all that so it doesn’t matter if contestants complete all their rounds in the space of an hour or over 3 weeks.
Ultimately spending extra money so every single hole has it’s own set is not going to improve the show at all.
I notice that the final heat (which aired last night) didn’t finish filming until around 5am when dawn broke over Brisbane, and Matt mentioned it in his commentary.
Promos for next Sunday’s celebrity edition are rolling out with a big emphasis on Denise Drysdale’s injury.

The kids are on par! - Holey Moley Junior steps up to the tee
Holey Moley Junior , a Holey Moley competition event special showcasing Australia’s brightest golfing prodigies, will tee off 7.30pm Monday, 1 March on Channel 7.
Holey Moley Junior brings together eight of the country’s most talented junior mini golfers, ranging in age from eight to 10 years, to battle it out across three wild rounds.
While they show off their incredible skills on the most extreme mini golf course on the planet, these competitive kids are chasing the ultimate prize: the Holey Moley plaid jacket, golden putter, a whopping $10,000 golf shopping spree and being crowned the world’s first-ever Holey Moley Junior Champion.
How will these golfing stars of tomorrow deal with the death-defying Holey Moley obstacles? That’s where their parents step in. While the kids take the putts, their adult caddies will take the hits on diabolical course favourites, including Putter Ducky, Dutch Courage, Putt the Plank any many more.
With hours of daily training and prior wins in junior golf tournaments, it’s an even pack heading into the ompetition.
Nine-year-old Oliver, who dreams of becoming a professional golfer, has his sights set on taking out the championship, “I love golf. I’ve been playing golf for as long as I can remember. I like the feeling of winning because all the hard work pays off.”
Teamwork is the key to success for nine-year-old Janie, “me and Dad are going to win because we are the best team,” said Janie, who has been playing golf for eight years. “Winning Holey Moley would be the best thing ever. I’m pumped!”
Eight-year-old Oscar has a clear strategy for the win, “getting a hole-in-one on the first one and dad getting through the obstacles.”
Oscar’s dad, Jay, admits he’s feeling the pressure but is still confident, “he’s got the ability and I think I’ve got the agility!”
Standing by with words of Holey Moley wisdom for contestants and caddies will be host Sonia Kruger, Holey Moley Resident Golf Pro Greg Norman and commentators Rob Riggle and Matt Shirvington.
Surprised that they hyped up the final hole so much and it was 3 spinning pyramids. I’m gathering they had to get a hole in 1 to win the $100k and if no one got it then it was forfeited like Ninja Warrior?
That “Tomb Of Nefer-tee-tee” was the most overhyped thing I’ve ever seen.
(mind you, Mount Midoriyama in “Ninja Warrior” comes pretty close).
It pretty much looked like any other hole.
Even the commentators were a bit shocked - like “is this it”?
I feel a bit sorry for Montana who came extremely close to getting the $100k three holes in a row.
Introducing a wildcard in the grand final was not a good idea. Next season the heats should be reduced from 10 to 8 so wildcard won’t have to be used.
Wasn’t the reveal of that hole meant to be the punchline to the ongoing joke? It was in the American version. Didn’t they make that clear on Seven?
Every time I channel surfed past this there seemed to be another annoying dickhead acting the fool. You can tell they were limited in casting due to Covid because of the number of North Queensland bogan types cast.
Hopefully the writers have exhausted their supply of Uranus jokes and the residents in the Redlands Council area complain enough about the night time noise so Seven doesn’t revive this.
Holey Moley! Mark “The Garbo” bags a $100,000 payday!
Mark Duncan crowned 2021 Holey Moley champion
Tonight, after an action-packed season of exciting extreme mini golf, garbo Mark Duncan was crowned Australia’s first Holey Moley champion, bagging $100,000 prize money.
With his good luck charm - a signed Greg Norman hat - in his pocket, Mark breezed through his early rounds against Jesse Earnshaw on Clowning Around and Teresa Thoi on Polcano with some incredible putting under pressure.
These wins propelled the bearded garbo to Greg Norman’s top-secret final hole, The Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee, where he met pro-golfer, Montana Strauss and drone-pilot, Jayden Lawson.
With Montana and Jayden having both achieved a hole-in-one during their championship rounds, Mark stepped up to the Grand Final hole as the underdog.
The highly anticipated reveal of The Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee drew gasps from the crowd. The pint-sized pyramid hole may not have been what was expected, but it soon became apparent that the hole’s difficulty was enormous.
Each player had to putt through the sphinx onto the rotating pyramids and then onto the green with a 100-ft shot at a hole-in-one. Trading shots, Montana had three very near misses, Jayden came close on his putts, but on the third round with his family cheering him on, Mark hit an outstanding putt which saw his ball sink the hole and win him the $100,000.
Mark was dazed by his win. “I cannot believe it!” he told Sonia Kruger before sharing the prize money would be spent on his family, a new car and some golf clubs.

So we’ll see kids being hit by stuff and falling over as entertainment ? (Somehow doubting it). Holey Moley is boring… I gave 1 go to the show on 7Plus… that American Guy was annoying. Needs 2 Aussies .
