HM Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) -- Funeral Coverage

Why are business channels like Bloomberg and CNBC covering it? Keeping the stock tickers and market graphs on screen looks incredibly tacky and disrespectful.

The London Stock Exchange is closed today, guess they think they might as well show the reason why :stuck_out_tongue:

As soon as the church service finished CBS News broke away from the straight feed with split screens , host commentary and reporters while still mainly showing the procession.

I remember Diana’s funeral and I had just as much interest in that than I do with the Queen. The old VCR was busy.

Some people may want to watch it. Fair enough. But keep it on one channel. Don’t saturate it so people who don’t want to watch it (for whatever reason) have other choices. The whole of Australia is aggregated now.

Well, CNA Youtube does have a separate livestream of the funeral through the pooled feed from London. Other news orgs in the Philippines, also stream the service online to prevent disruption of primetime programming.

There are sooooo many other choices. I really don’t see a problem here.

10, every other secondary channel, Netflix, Stan, Prime, Kayo, Disney Plus, Binge, Paramount Plus…

Take your pick.

It is 2022. Most people at this time of night are using things called Streaming Services….
I’m sure people will cope ok.

It’s still overkill and saturation. I’m not sure exactly what the appeal is. Funerals aren’t exactly nice things at the best of times….

This sounds good in theory but for an event as big as this every one will want to cover it.

Pretty much every major network would want to cover an extremely huge historical event.

In a time with multichannels and so many streaming options, I wouldn’t call this coverage saturation (it’s what, 6 out of about 25 channels in metro areas) . It’s a major event of global significance that we have not seen in 70 years. Some of the ever dwindling number of people who watch FTA might be a bit put out by the loss of their ‘normal programmes’ but there will be many, many more people tuning into FTA TV tonight who normally wouldn’t just for this occasion. It’s not like the FTA channels produce much else of value in primetime these days anyway (outside of news and big occasions).

You have to wonder elements of this coverage will influence people to watch a particular network. It seems that since 8pm the coverage has been pretty close to identical across all channels. So the only significant difference is what went on before the service began. How far back do we have to go to see why a viewer chose a particular channel.

Is it what was on in the 30 minutes or so leading up to the funeral service?
Or what news service they watched tonight at 6pm?
Or what they were watching earlier in the day? At 4pm or at midday when Seven and Nine started?
Or was it the coverage of the events over the last 10 days including breakfast TV, overnight coverage, late bulletins 6pm news etc that made them decide?
Or was it one of those dramatic promos for tonight has an influence?
Or the graphics?
Or will they watch the channel of the news service they always watch; or in the case of Perth - Seven no matter what?

Worth mentioning that ABC has the same program on 2 channels - not quite as bad as UK

I’m getting the indication you don’t have any streaming platforms or know there are 17 other channels to choose from that are not showing it. It’s not 1997. :joy:

There’s a lot of background noise and laughter, and heard whispering on 7.

My Brother and Father who are way too tight to pay for streaming both know that in situations like this there is always youtube.

That too :+1:

Controversial but in my opinion for the funeral itself the 10 Bold coverage is actually the best of all the networks, because it’s a complete clean feed of the BBC with no watermarks or anything on top.

Seven has its own commentary…. Been going for about 20 minutes or so. Nice touch.

You know I was actually thinking the same thing. The biggest problem is that it’s on Ten Bold lol. ABC and SBS have good clean feeds as well.
