I doubt that SCA management would do this, but maybe it’s time to re-explore the idea of rebranding the station to “Hit 104.1” but without the “2DayFM” moniker?
Don’t get me wrong, I rather like heritage radio brands. But it’s not as if the “2DayFM” name has been associated with much good in recent years (certainly after 2014, although it’s been strongly associated with other controversies before that like the infamous 2012 “Royal Prank Call” and 2009 “Lie Detector” stunts).
If the ratings for Em & Harley continue to disappoint, I’d expect the 5th new 2DayFM breakfast show in five years to be quietly announced in Early January (similar to what happened with the Rove & Sam/Em & Harley transition this year).
I agree with previous comments that bringing Hughsie & Kate over from KIIS might give the ratings a flow-on effect to other shows on the station, but I’d still expect the 2DayFM breakfast show to remain a problem spot for some time to come…perhaps even until K&JO retire from radio.
I would say extending Carrie & Tommy by 30 minutes to prevent people switching to the other stations, also if it is too be believed that Carrie & Tommy were the first choice for drive but Carrie wouldn’t leave TV they must have some great feedback. What I find strange is that if their research shows that an extended drive slot is worthwhile, why would they only have Ash London Cover H&A recently and not the preceding hour ?
I love Hughsey & Kate, but I don’t think a long term strategy ofa 46 year old & 52 year old will work, especially as they have made reference to KIIS having ageing talent.
That’s what I’m expecting. Xavier’s been a very regular part of the show for the past month or so - since about the time it was announced that Will and Woody were leaving.
What are you talking about? There will be no change for 2DayFM breakfast in 2018.
Gemma Fordham has publicly said: “We have to go with what our ears tell us, which is the product is great… We are absolutely committed to the show, and it will 100 per cent remain next year.”
Cant get a better guarantee from SCA than that can you
Oddly they have not announced on air regarding Wil and Woody departures also despite the fact Xavier now a full time regular of the show he’s not included in show name that will change soon.
Bit of a strange one I noticed on The Fox today - they yanked a song off mid-way through because they realised they were playing the “naughty version”.
The only difference in lyrics with Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls is the word ‘suicidal’ usually replaced with ‘in denial’ in the radio edit…
i ill prefrace this with “i’m not in radio and therefore have never used the software involved” but 2 things spring to mind:
1st- why have the "uncensored version in the playback system if they don’t play it? or,
2 - if they so play it (or anything else) only between certain hours, or on certain days or whatever, why doesn’t the playback software have a “lock” feature where the song is unplayable between certain hours? given the fines i see when i read the UK’s offcom reports i think this would pay for itself. the other option is that a huge “uncensored” warning comes up when it gets added to the playlist. of course, the point of failure there is that the uncensored flag needs to be set, but still, it’s gotta be better than this.
Though I’m sure I’ve heard stations play INXS’s “Suicide Blonde” in recent months. Whilst it may not be about suicide as such, that may not be obvious to everyone.
we also play Screaming Jets “Shivers” so I don’t know what The Fox was doing. Maybe the transfer over to Zetta saw a different version of the song uploaded into the system? I know that KO are playing different versions of songs than what we used to when we were running Maestro.
