Hit Network

Ditch the frequencies

Why? It’s one station not a network, they need all the help they can to get people to find it.

Funnily enough, that’s something you and CB agreed on. Hard to launch a brand new station with a brand new image/format where the brand has 40+ years of history/baggage.

It’s cleaner.
I’m not saying don’t refer to it but in a digital world, using the frequency in a name seems dated.

I notice on air they mostly just say “2day” but for exterior branding and any signage etc you need the frequency. If you wanna sound cooler “Hit 104”.

A slogan along the lines of ‘breaking hits first’ would be good instead of try-hard 2day AF which says nothing.

Yeah, I have no issue with that, just think incorporating it into the brand is a backward step.

That’s not a bad idea. Whether they had rebranded to simply “HIT” or even just “2DAY”, it works quite well with the current format. IMO both names Hit and 2Day both mean current - which aligns with their new format.

In saying that, 2Day1041, or simply 2Day, isn’t too bad of a brand. I like the ditching of FM in their name.

2DayFM still sounds modern IMO, it literally means Today, so unless that word stops being referred to as the present day, I think it works!

I feel like they could do away with the 2DAY number era, as there is no 2 in their frequency.

Why not just Today104.1? Dont really mind TodayFM either (Smooth brand themselves as FM everywhere despite being DAB+ only in a few markets) or Hit1041, both work

Hit name now fits better for this format too, perhaps a bit ahead of its time when it was initally luanched back in 2015/16?

Because it’s a clever play on the NSW callsign starting with 2. I think the only other station having fun with it is the regional community station called 2YOU.

Well, if it’s OK to have an disenvowelled word like they use for the LiSTNR app then a numeronym like 2Day should be just fine.

The difference here, is many announcers in the past would actually emphasise the “two” when announcing it on air as “Two Day FM”, whereas more recently it became “TodayFM”. No need to spell it out each time when you’re saying it as “Two Day”.

Craig Bruce even refers to it as “Two Day”.

KIIS and vega have/had similar issues.

The worst is MixxFM in Victoria.

They’ve flipped and flopped between Today and 2Day over the years. Think it last went back to “Two” when they flipped to AC.

Why not broaden the playlist then? I mean there’s no need to listen to the same song 8 times a day (9 if included in the mashup at lunchtime which is also as welcome as a kick in the gonads). 4 times a day MAX for me especially if they’re filling overnights with podcasts

It drives me crazy whenever I drive somewhere and hear a bunch of songs and then on the drive home they are played again on the same station.

Because then you aren’t fitting the format of hot new/breaking music. You start playing throwbacks etc and then like everyone else

It’s not hard to play more current music though. I have a 4hr playlist on my phone, the oldest song being from Jan 10 (& I haven’t even updated it this week yet). Throw in adds, the news, talking, competitions, a few more popular songs that I haven’t added, a few throw backs from the last few years and you have nearly a full day music with no repeats.

But that isn’t what (most) Top40 listeners want or at least those listening to radio.
Internal research has shown that time and again.

I’m yet to hear of a CHR/Top 40 station having a No Repeat Workday.

Sometimes I think CHR stations can barely manage a “No Repeat Hour”

In other news, I had a few friends from work come over for drinks on Good Friday. I put 2DayFM on the stereo for a bit of music. I forgot it was 100% RnB, the younger work colleagues told me to turn it off. Apple Music’s “New Music Mix” made everyone happy.

i think it’s time for RnB Fridays to be ended, I don’t see it’s appeal anymore
