Hit Network

MC out. Seany B in.

He’s becoming the Mitch Churi of the Hit Network. Well done to Seany B. But still, we miss MC. A shame if he has been completely let go. Both him and Triple M’s Sidey have been part of those station’s DNA for years.

MC probably time for a change tbh. He enjoyed a long tenure at SCA even after the incident from many years ago with Mel Greig, who was shown far different treatment.
That kind of longevity in media is really a thing of the past these days. Good on him for lasting as long as he did

I hope he pops up at KIIS. I always thought he was too good for 2DayFM once K&J left. MC should’ve left at the same time.

A Life with Endo airs across the Hit Network on Sunday March 23 at 8am (time may vary in local market) and on the LiSTNR app.

I had a good listen to the new 2day1041 over the last couple of days. I do get what they are trying to do, but they need to expand the playlist as it is very repetitive with the same songs on rotation every two hours.

The new format reminds me of the hot CHR format Austereo implemented on 2day fm back in 1990 after they purchased the station. They did implement the format much better back then.

If 2day fm’s focus is on new music they need to look at the more commercial friendly music played on BBC R1, Capital Dance, and the NZ CHR stations such as ZM / Edge.

I think the next couple of surveys will be quite volatile with the shredding of the older listeners, and sampling from younger listeners. They just need to expand the playlist, and execute it better.

Mid 90s it was NXFM Newcastle where they launched with 3 Hours Commercial Free 9am to midday, positioned as “Continuous Hit Music” with top 30 rotates every 90 minutes.

Mmm Bop got old and tired very quickly but it did the job - shed listeners it didn’t want and got the young people in.

Craig Bruce suggested 90 min rotation tops.

Dxing from Sydney, I remember the three launches of X107 / NX fm. Did X107 also position with Continuous Hit music too? I remember they had a very tight high rotation playlist back then. Then they blew up the station and went to an Active Rock format, “All Ways Great Rock n Roll, and then back to CHR again. Second time around it worked for NX, helped by the decline of New fm and some very good programming by Austereo.

All New All Hit

With the catchy jingle “all new all hit X One Oh Seven”

Also remember 2KO and 2NX ran local simulcast overnight around the early to mid 90s with the news tag “News…
For the Hunter…Overnight”

And as X13 on 1341am before that.

Though X107 did change to “Always Great Rock n Roll” sometime between FM conversion in May 1992 and changing to NXFM in 1994.

If they rebranded 2day fm to Hit 1041 “All new all hit one oh four one” would be a great positioner.

Hits is a better name than Hit.

@MarkHD probably can confirm the dates better than me, I think the NXFM106.9 “Always Great Rock n Roll era was from around 1993 to 1995.
By 1995 they had full Austereo programming and Martin Molloy in drive and the ratings soared.

my memory isn’t spectacular but I think it was implemented when Radio Newcastle (owner of 2KO) bought 2NX - I do remember driving to work at 2NM late 95 and 96 listening to Garth, Steve, Katie and Thunder Dick on NEW brekky, and Martin Molloy on the drive home on NX. I think Sammy Power and maybe Jason Staveley might have been starting on NX brekky, or Todd Seargent. Brian Connor on Afternoons.

following a board decision, on January 22, 1996, the parent company of KOFM (and of NXFM), Radio Newcastle Pty. Ltd , decided to sell the Radio operation which was purchased by Austereo. The History of Newcastle Radio Stations

Upon changing to FM, the licence call sign became 2XXX FM (as it remains today) & they became X107 still All New, All Hit Radio.
In '93 Hunter Broadcasters, owner of 2NM & X107 FM was split & sold, Radio Newcastle (a consortium of local business people) bought X107 & the Cameron’s bought Hunter Broadcasters & took control of 2NM Muswellbrook.
Late '93 or early '94, X107 was re branded to NXFM (on air id only) moved out of the 770 Hunter St Newcastle West Studios up to Charlestown with KOFM & changed to a Always Great Rock & Roll Format & stayed that way till Austereo bought Radio Newcastle in the late '90s, it was then icons of Newcastle & Australian radio started to be sacked from KO & NX, & Austereo started bringing in Sydney drop-outs or new potential Sydney/Melbourne talent & using it as a nursery/retirement home, this didn’t work, & it wasn’t until BOG self destructed NEWFM that NXFM got back to the top where it was all those years ago, the rest they say is history.

1993 sounds right re the format change to “Always Great Rock n Roll” came in, but I don’t think the full Austereo changes were until 1997?

around Summer 96 into 97 I think. Remember it being HOOOOOOOOTTTT and swimming in the pool at home a lot and listening to Continuous MMM Bop Music LOL

Also funny story - Today Network did the “Ad Free 50s” every hour. NX did for a bit as well but changed back to generic “50 Minute Music Marathon” because the GM and Sales Manager didn’t want to piss their advertisers off. It wasn’t a popular decision with the management in Adelaide (or so I was told)
