Heard a bit of Dave Cameron chatting with Peter Sexton & he made a valid point about not subscribing to “specific” formats.

CHR has essentially become a niche format.

“Jon Miller, Nielsen’s VP of Audience Insights says all-time highest share (6+) for pop CHR in PPM measurement in the US going back to the beginning of 2011, was 8.9 in July 2012—when the format enjoyed a particularly fruitful period where moms and daughters indulged in Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen and Kelly Clarkson, he adds. But as of April 2018, CHR’s share is 7.0, nearly two share points lower.“

US radio programmer and consultant Guy Zapoleon says CHR’s decline is the product of an inevitable and crucial phase of the Pop Music Cycle.
“ CHR has always been a format dependent on music that is available and trending. While Top 40’s true sound is made up of a balance of pop, rock and rhythmic/R&B components, the pendulum often swings to one side, influenced by changes in generational tastes and new consumption platforms.

This forces the edges to take hold of the dominant sound.
R&B/hip hop artists Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Migos, Khalid, Post Malone and more are riding the streaming wave and defining the sound of a generation.

As the most popular acts of the prevailing 15-29 demographic, the rhythmic edges of CHR are red hot with hits. With this comes the start of a new extreme/doldrums phase as the centre pop sound gets pushed out to the edges.”

Seems like a good business decision

Wonder how long until we find out what’s happening in Perth?

I’d guess it’s 92.9 > Triple M 92.9 and Mix to be the Hit Network station, with it keeping the Mix branding and expanding that WA wide. Can’t imagine what good timing for that would be - but surely a good idea to do it all while there’s no ratings on to let it all bed down.

Mix is a terrible and generic name. Almost as bad as HIT.

But still better than Mixx …

But it’s a strong brand in Perth right now - as opposed to digging up brands like PMFM/KYFM. There were still people actively calling SAFM/B105 by those names, can’t imagine that’s true for KY or PMFM as brands - or them spending time/money trying to make up a new name and get that well known.

Yes I suspect you’re right that 92.9 will end up as Triple M and Mix as part of Hit. If they don’t go that way then PMFM with Hit and Mix will go Triple M - I think this is less likely though as Mix is such a long running success in Perth and the music transition will be easier. 92.9 is in the doldrums so probably better to rip the bandaid and start from scratch as Triple M.

Wonder if TTT could return to Hobart?

I’m pretty sure I saw hit104.7 Facebook page change across to the new branding but it has now been reversed.

What’s the story here?

Have ARN intervened? Will this be another case like Mix106.3 taking years to rebrand to the KIIS style?

Maybe Canberra will see something similar to Perth? Will it be Triple M 104.7?

Their website has the new logo.

They’re not dressing themselves…the style guide would be quite clear as to what males and females would each be dressed in and in most cases clothing would be supplied. Of course that doesn’t make the fact the males are clearly dressed different to the females right…

Well, they needed to do better because all the women look great but some of the guys look like they were dressed by St Vinnies.

The casual look is supposedly relatable for Hit music stations - because it’s what their audience would largely wear. Formal clothes come across more stuffy for males than they do female.

Why mix and match then? A casual shirt is not formal. Gawndy, Lehmo and Dan look good. Hughesy, Cosi, Dylan and Matt look passable.

Stav looks homeless in an oversized t-shirt. He looked better in the news interview today.

A faded t-shirt, a faded denim jacket, ill-fitting t-shirts, a baseball cap. Is grey marle making a fashion comeback already? Sorry but it looks rubbish.

Why did Little Fox launch a week before this? Why bother having a logo for one week before replacing it? Similar can be said about launching a new app a week or so before a rebrand. You could even say the same thing about RedFM just 4 months after rebranding, are presumably changing again.

Surely they should have also rebranded Perth at the same time, alongside a new 2DayFM breakfast show that is probably coming soon, and rebranding the regionals as well.

And since SCA have made it clear they’ve got more planned (particularly for Perth), here’s my suggestions/predictions:

Perth:
92.9 Triple M
Mix94.5, and put WAFM on all the regional WA hit stations (if they can get Seven to co-operate, otherwise maybe just leave the regionals as is or possibly go RedFM?)

Both can keep their existing breakfast shows, Mix can probably keep their current workdays hosts too.

Regional VIC/NSW/QLD:
Don’t use Fox/2Day. Locals have already had enough metro branding shoved down their throats, give them back their own brands. Whether it be NXFM in Newcastle, SeaFM Central Coast/Gold Coast, SunFM Shepparton etc.

For Hobart:
Maybe just leave It as hit. You could probably put SeaFM back on, but I don’t think it will make much difference.

For Canberra:
Triple M - why compete with yourself? Mix’s format is quite similar - plus Canberra has always liked a good rock station.

who cares? It’s a radio show.

Disagree for Victoria at least. All three stations have only been either Star or Hit - there’s no heritage in those stations.

Well, who cares about a multi million dollar relaunch then?

Many of them are comics, women also care about their appearance more. What a shocker.
