Hit Network

I enjoyed the speculation that Grant Denyer would be good talent for smoothfm, or that ARN will dump a KIIS breakfast show that is contracted through to the end of 2020.

Clueless.

Ever since it was sold a couple of years ago it’s been a joke. 3 of their 5 writers, including the editor, have never worked in radio.

Was thinking this could happen and Jules her now permanent replacement did a great job filling in.All the best to Heidi.

Before it was sold too.

Jocks’ Journal and Radioinfo have their niches but that has always been ‘Radio Yesterday’ for me and many I know.

It pisses me off that Prince is usually represented on R&B Fridays with “Cream”… Honestly they should play the other Prince and the New Power Generation-era singles. Or maybe “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World”, which rarely gets any airplay in Hit territory due to the on-going lawsuit involving that song, but is played on the Triple M regional networks and ARN/Nova stations pretty often.

How does the ongoing lawsuit affect Hit but not Triple M?

I have noticed that in the last few days 2DayFM have slightly changed their playlist. It’s now more middle of the road.

They have an American voice over that says “Less Interruptions and More of the Music You Love”. This puzzles me in two ways. Firstly, what tha frik is it with the America accent? Cringe. Embarrassing. So Not Sydney. Not my 2DayFM. Stop it.

Secondly, telling me between songs that there are less interruptions - is actually an interruption.

I suppose you could sum up the music as newish stuff from today and lots of overplayed 90s and 00s music. It’s so safe. Sometimes radio stations that are struggling need to go outside of the flags. Just a little bit.

I wish 2DayFM would take a chance over summer.

I am in Sydney and sampled it today, way too many 80/ songs and soft 90s. Feel like I’m listening to TTFM in 1996. The idents I heard weren’t like that and seemed good and fresh but didn’t match the music. Plus the promos for afternoon shows returning in 2020 are going to be jarring against the music.

You are spot on TVHead. Half the idents were with an Australian accent and male and female voices. The other half were a fake American accent.

Marketing 101: Consistency Matters.

Makes sense yeah the Australian two header ones sounded right for a hit station and the name still sounds good and youthful they’re making a massive marketing mistake sullying the brand with old stale music

Sadly not.

Gemma’s locked the strategy in and jetted off on hols to where there’s less smoke.

I am not normally a believer in conspiracy theories…but…is there any chance that Gemma receives secret payments from Nova Entertainment or ARN to keep 2DayFM at between a 3 and 4 per cent share?

2DayFM flounders for six years and for the 7th year they offer up overplayed hits from the past 25 years as a solution?

Maybe the summer of 2020’s playlist is not proof enough…although the appointment of Grant Denyer, Rove or Merrill Watts as hosts of the breakfast shift in past years should at least raise suspicion. As an SCA shareholder I demand a Royal Commission into the matter.

I somewhat agree there (not with the payments theory though).

But surely after 6-7 years you’d hope the station would be doing better than the same 3-4 percent. Even Mix106.5 was doing better back in the day with similar music.

Before I end up in a civil case on Trial by Kyle - I want to ensure everyone that I don’t believe in conspiracy theories. This includes the ones that I make up.

If I was ARN or Nova, I’d be sending Gemma a cheeky Christmas card at least to say thanks for keeping 2DAY out of the race.

Just looking through their socials and it’s sad that 2Day has only posted one “reposted” photo of the Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks on Instagram and only one repetitive Phil Collins meme on their Facebook page.

Meanwhile KIIS1065 were broadcasting live last night and have about 40 Insta stories.

2Day has really lost its beat. I hope in this new decade we’ll see the resurrection of the once strong and hard-hitting 2DayFM brand.

… I’ve said it before and still believe 2Day should sound more like their 2Day Dance DAB+ station. And change their on air branding back to “Two-day” not “today FM” …

2Day’s playing dance music would scare the expletive out of Nova and KIIS. They would freak out. It would also impact on JJJ.

1041 could so easily be Sydney’s dance frequency.

Keep Calm and Dance.

I don’t think a solely Dance station would work. I still think their future success lies in going for the Smooth/WS audience but leaning more towards 90s, 00s and 10s.
