Historical Metro Ratings

Triple M reached an 18.8 in breakfast by S2/1989 (and peaked with 19.6 a year later), but it took years to get there from a 2.7 in 1981. Its first double-digit survey was an 11.6 in S4/1984.

This is like something from Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

4KQ with a 17% share.

As a country station.

Yes, I remember 2SM switching to country. Do you know what year that was? I vaguely remember it was right when stations started broadcasting online for the first time (back when RealAudio was a thing).

Hey Ron.

According to Billboard it was October 1 1998. And you’re right. At that time (albeit on dial-up) I remember just being so amazed to be able to listen to Z100 and KIIS and Capital on RealAudio. I remember thinking at the time ‘this is absolutely incredible’.

The magazine article you posted was dated 1992, noting that 2SM changed to country on 1 October.

2SM had this bumper sticker from 1992:

However, 2SM did have a second stab at country a few years later (possibly 1998?) as Kick-AM

That’s interesting.

4KZ Innisfail/Tully had a narrowcast country station called KICK Country. They are now part of the Super Radio Network.

That logo always reminds me of the old 2CH logo.
