I just came across this video earlier, from Peter Miller who worked at NTD8 at the time of Cyclone Tracy.

This video, dated 1995, features him reviewing some footage he had taken just days after Cyclone Tracy in 1974, that had been handed in to the NFSA. Also includes, at the 8:15 mark, some footage taken from outside and inside what was left of NTD8, including the studio and station logo/signage.

Part of the footage of the studio damage was used in a report that Nine Darwin did on their 40th birthday in 2011. Despite the damage, it looked like a relatively well equipped station back in the day.

so of course now YouTube is sending me videos related to Cyclone Tracy!

This one, from SMH/The Age seemingly demonstrates that cyclone warnings for Tracy were listened to on Russian radios:

Was the “Breaking News” graphic added-in for the Travel Guides clip?

This looks to be altered for Travel Guides yes?

Agreed. I can’t recall the term “Breaking News” used back then.

Yeah, I think that was still in the “News Flash” or “News Break” days

You can see a standard “Nightline” intro with Jim Waley before crossing to ABC America

Well that misses the start so we can’t know what the real slide was I guess.

It was used on occasions, typically for breaking into programming. I have this one in my collection…somewhere! I’ll need to find the tape ahaha
