Here in Perth, the Front Bar was abruptly cut without warning for The Latest was on 20 mins into the show about the Queen’s health. Little did I knew I was about to witness history

I remember hearing the news and seeing the coverage, and I thought at first that it was just another one of those updates on her health. However, I then saw the stuff happening in the Parliament, and the pictures of the family rushing to Balmoral, and then realised that something was happening.

I watched the BBC for a bit, then I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up the news day, I opened the ABC blog from the previous night, to then see that she had passed away.

I spent the whole weekend watching the rolling coverage.

The MediaSpy staff have decided with the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaching, it would be appropriate to have a discussion thread of the Australian coverage of the terror attacks in 2001.

In the past, we have closed the main TV history thread around this time of the year as we’ve had to deal with what the team call ‘Disaster porn’, where everyone gets a little too excited and forgets that 3,000 people died that day and set off a subsequent never-ending war that killed many more. All we ask is that while you discuss the coverage, please be a little respectful.

This will be the only opportunity to discuss the coverage, after this year the thread will be locked and act as an archival read-only thread - only opened if new vision emerges.

it’s just saying what the purpose of that thread is and why it is there/locked. If there is anything new or significant to add then it may be unlocked. So far I don’t think there has been any reason to do so.

Who says I was pushing discussion there?

There were 3 deleted posts in here going over how the news broke - which happens every year around the anniversary and hence why it was locked. I posted to stop any more of those posts as it inevitably descends into the same shit about Talking Footy and Sandra Sully depending on what channel you were watching.
