Historic News Events

Here in Perth, the Front Bar was abruptly cut without warning for The Latest was on 20 mins into the show about the Queen’s health. Little did I knew I was about to witness history

I remember hearing the news and seeing the coverage, and I thought at first that it was just another one of those updates on her health. However, I then saw the stuff happening in the Parliament, and the pictures of the family rushing to Balmoral, and then realised that something was happening.

I watched the BBC for a bit, then I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up the news day, I opened the ABC blog from the previous night, to then see that she had passed away.

I spent the whole weekend watching the rolling coverage.

A reminder given tomorrow’s anniversary that we have a thread on this.

A thread that is locked…

was open for the 20th anniversary in 2021…

there is probably nothing being discussed now that hasn’t been done already

So why point discussion there?..

it’s just saying what the purpose of that thread is and why it is there/locked. If there is anything new or significant to add then it may be unlocked. So far I don’t think there has been any reason to do so.

Exactly… Why?

Is there anything new to discuss?

No, so again, why push discussion to a locked thread?

did you read what was in the post quoted, it explains why a thread was created and why it is locked.

Now unless there is anything new to discuss I don’t see any need to keep going in circles

Who says I was pushing discussion there?

There were 3 deleted posts in here going over how the news broke - which happens every year around the anniversary and hence why it was locked. I posted to stop any more of those posts as it inevitably descends into the same shit about Talking Footy and Sandra Sully depending on what channel you were watching.

45 Years Ago Tonight: The infamous Star Hotel Riot

Apparently the NBN Night time newscrew went there with the intention of covering the closure of the pub. Little did they know what would go down.

NBN ended up winning a Logie for this news coverage

Was digitising Rd 3 1996 Bears vs Lions - and Ch7 newsflash came on about the Port Arthur massacre.
May be the earliest TV newsflash of the tragedy?
