Hey Hey It's Saturday

How many guest hosts has the show had when Daryl was absent for whatever reason?

I can recall Larry Emdur hosting once, and possibly Richard Wilkins…

Denise Drysdale guest hosted the show in 1994. Others included Shane Bourne, Richard Stubbs, Jo Beth Taylor, and Steve Jacobs.

Very early on Daryl Somers had glandular fever for a few months and he was temporarily replaced by Marty Morton from The Super Flying Fun Show.

Was that when the show was on Saturday morning?

Yes, it was.

Real shame that episodes from the early years weren’t saved.

Do you recall if Emu appeared with the Ostrich?

I can’t remember if Emu was there or not.

Wow I miss these days, I was too young to watch … Things were more innocent, it would not get to air these days?

It was a simpler time.

I’d say lousy, lame and uninspired. Each to their own.

Especially with Daryl’s beige outfits and 80s hair. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Shirley Strachan guest hosted once or twice

Daryl had signalled his intention to step away from hosting the show in the mid 1990s. Maybe that was a contract negotiation ploy but Shirley Strachan, Steve Jacobs and James Simpson, a Foxtel kid’s show host and regular Hey, Hey guest, had all been mentioned as contenders for the hosting job.

His ego would never allow him to bow out gracefully.

Daryl probably wanted to step back after Ernie left.

No he didn’t. He didn’t want it to ever end.

You could sense it in his voice when the show ended in '99.

It wasn’t a successful show. The carpeted stairs instead of a desk and chairs was odd at the time.

In the early 90’s they did a show at Burswood Theatre (Now Crown Perth)

The Footy Show used to do their Perth shows there over the years.
