Can’t wait for the 150th anniversary next year.

I honestly can’t think of anyone I know that actually likes this dude anymore.

I moved to Australia in late 1999 in my teens from NZ so must have been just after the show finished airing . Never really saw it on TV or grew up watching it .

I guess this appeals to the older demographic who watch 7.

The YouTube video is unavailable now.

I don’t have any issues with Daryl. He’s an icon of Australian tv. Love or hate. And I don’t understand the constant hate for a one off special, during a 4 day national holiday. Lots of people appreciate the nostalgia. Let them enjoy it.

I have very very fond memories of growing up with Hey Hey and will be watching.

Apart from being able to spell his name right… (This was actually his pet hate which he often mentioned during the show’s run)

The title of this thread should be renamed “Hey Hey it’s 100 Years”. In a few weeks time, retitled “Hey Hey it’s 51 Years” for the remaining 2 specials that will be held later in the year.

Or just “the Hey Hey 50+ Years Specials”.

edit thanks for changing the name to “Specials”

The thing about the Title “It’s 100 Years” is it’s clearly got us all talking about it on here. I think that’s the idea. It’s going to have viewers scratch their heads, take notice and start talking about it. Therefore creating more intrigue & interest to tune in… Just a thought :ok_hand:t2:

When Hey Hey first debuted in 1922 blackface minstrel shows were a big part of popular culture…

Haha I read that wrong . I didn’t know Daryl Somers was that old . Lol

I know what blackface is but what exactly are you trying to tell us ? The sentence seems to be disjointed. And are you saying hey hey is a cult ?

It was a joke referencing the Jackson Jive controversy.

I believe the title is an abbreviation of Hey Hey It’s 100 Years Out of Date.

When Hey Hey premiered in 1971, The Black & White Minstrel Show was a thing.

Having not been born until the 1980s, I was genuinely not aware of this. It helps give context to the societal norms of the era when Hey Hey first started and how much they have changed.

It will be Red Faces specials according to Daryl Somers.

Great as Daryl Somers himself appeared on Last Night’s Good Friday Appeal Telecast with Good Mate Larry Emdur who was a Judge on Red Faces a Few Times.
