Aaaah, yes, Saturday Night Rove. I forgot about that one. Yes, that did flop on Saturday night in 2019. No variety will work on a Saturday night anymore.
All the “big shows” air Sunday to Thursdays these days on our screens. Fridays and Saturdays are for sports and movie repeats, pretty much.
But to be fair Saturday Night Rove was terrible.
Different production and show. The Saturday show was nothing like the original.
It was on the wrong night, wrong cast, not enough writers and the wrong city.

comedy works better in Melbourne as that’s where all the comics are, and the better writers too.
Sunday Herald Sun reports that a second Hey Hey special has been filmed, with Seven set to announce broadcast details in coming weeks. The article adds Seven is planning another two specials later this year.
Three specials this year is probably pushing the limits of viewer interest. Reckon Seven only airing two specials would have been the smarter thing to do.
Just saw an ad during the footy… “Hey Hey It’s 100 Years!” Easter Sunday on 7. Mentioned it includes a tribute to Shane Warne.

Interesting that it will air on Easter Sunday - given its the “Easter non-ratings period”. Thought they’d hold on a week or two for it (yes, am aware the The Voice, Lego Masters and MasterChef all start on Easter Monday).
That title’s going to be confusing once 2071 rolls around.
