Okay scratch my original post, looks like Perth has the guide for the main channel for 7HD as well and continues on through to the weekend…as well
So far my guide goes up to Modnay 19th December and 7HD has the main channel EPG in 7HD up until then. This is for Perth. So looks like a possible 7HD simulcast of hte main channel starts from Friday?
Can’t help feel that the timing as SydneyCityTV said was to probably beat the ABC HD launch If that’s the case. Again it’s speculation on our part though. Could mean lots of things.
I suspect Channel 7 will mention something on Friday Morning. Probably a quiet launch. Will be interesting to see if Brisbane has the main channel epg too for 7HD.
Yeah, fair point. I seem to remember us first hearing that Seven would do a HD main channel simulcast for 7mateHD markets during the Rio Olympics via EPG data, while online guides weren’t quick to be updated.
If Seven is indeed planning to broadcast HD main channel programing on LCN-70 to all markets from Friday, it’ll certainly be interesting to see if it’s a temporary (ie, 7mateHD comes back for the AFL next season) or permanent change.
Well if that is indeed the case they should have done the swap over to 7’s main channel being broadcast in HD then straight after the AFL finished. Clearly they didn’t do that. So I am thinking maybe they didn’t have the equipment or setup properly to do what they are now doing now? Just a theory.
Guess Friday we will know for sure.
Could also be preparing for the summer of Tennis in January too…
Perhaps they don’t want to be red faced when their regional affiliate launch a HD service before they do… (word is Prime is becoming increasingly frustrated with Seven’s lack of HD commitment).
Am I reaching here, or would this have anything to do with Prime7’s plans to commission an HD channel? Bring everything in line to when the regional affiliate comes on board?
Knowing that Seven were running the main channel in Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Perth for the duration of the Rio Olympics (complete with local 6pm news, etc during those two weeks or so), I highly doubt that Seven don’t already have the infrastructure in place to do a fulltime HD simulcast of their main channel in all capital cities.
Regional Queensland might be a different situation though, since I’m pretty sure that Seven Queensland is still running 7mate in MPEG2 SD (and obviously didn’t broadcast the main channel in HD during the Olympics) even though those stations are owned and operated by the network.
The more I think about it, the more that the “waiting for all regional markets to be ready” theory seems plausible. As well as Prime7, isn’t Southern Cross in Tasmania also planning to broadcast it’s main channel in HD perhaps early next year?
Pressure from regional affiliates, viewers, advertisers, being the last network to the party and last but not least, the power and might of MEDIA SPY! all forced Seven do some sort of deal with the AFL about having to screen that in HD to SYD/BNE/PER.
Will be interesting to see if 7 has given some concessions in return, perhaps a couple of marquee Swans/GWS games on Free to air (and HD of course ).
I doubt Seven are making any moves based on what their regional affiliates are doing. They went ahead and launched 7HD in Melbourne/Adelaide and 7flix nationally without their consultation. Every network is relaunching HD this year so it’s just a coincidence I think.
