Seven HD makes us LOL ![]()
Iâd imagine that Seven would still broadcast any really important Swans/GWS games on the main channel and in HD here in Sydney (and a similar deal with Lions/Suns games in Brisbane/Gold Coast and Eagles/Dockers games in Perth, one would imagine) if/when Seven (re)launch a HD simulcast of their main channel in all markets.
Not to mention the massive product placement/cross promotion event that is Carols In The Domain on Sunday night! ![]()
Probably not, if this is the case.
They have resisted so much until now, so i think itâs definitely a reaction to be the first to get in before ABC does.
Check this article out about Sevenâs coverage of the tennis.
Seven launches expanded coverage of The Australian Open Series
This may explain why theyâre going HD this Friday.
There was an EPG error in Adelaide as well last week - showing the EPG for 7mate and the picture for 7 primary. For a moment I thought 7 mightâve been switching us over to mate to make a consistent national HD channel ⌠of the wrong channel ;)
.
I donât remember anything about 7 launching 7HD in Adelaide; it literally appeared one day.
I imagine it will be the same for the remaining 7 metro markets
Metro markets⌠wonder if regional Qld will miss out ?
What happens when the AFL starts up again then?
No one (outside of Channel Swven) knows⌠yet
Time will tell.
But weâre all hoping the main channel being on 7HD from this Friday in all capitals is here for good.
Itâs Seven so probably not, but with abbot of juggling they could fit another HD channel in to have both mate and the main channel in HD.
Interesting move indeed for Sydney and Brisbane (at least). I wonder if it is just for the weekend in time for Carols in the Domain?
No, I checked my EPG for 7HD Sydney and it goes into next week (at least).
Also, I wouldnât see Carols In The Domain as reason alone to go HD.
They wouldnât do it for the Melbourne Cup (I think - it was a notable event since the AFL Grand Final that 7 wouldnât go HD for, but I canât remember what it was!).
Re, the recent EPG glitch with the HD channel in Melbourne & Adelaide: I think this situation just might be slightly different to the one weâre currently getting in Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Perth.
Here in Sydney at least, the EPG via terrestrial TV still lists 7mate programing airing on LCN-70 until Friday when Seven main channel programing seems to take over.
Seven also didnât air the golf tournaments in HD (Australian Open, etc.) in most markets. Thatâs also notable for being a major sporting event on Seven which wasnât shown in HD everywhere.
I agree that Seven wouldnât switch their main channel in HD just because of the product placement/network cross promotion fest that is Carols In The Domain. The target audience of that event (like most programs on Seven, I suppose!) probably couldnât give a toss whether itâs in HD or not.
In any case, letâs cross our fingers (but at the same time, not hold our breaths) that main channel programing will finally be shown on LCN-70 in all major metro markets next week and that in 2017 and beyond, weâll no longer have to put up with the ridiculous situation of having the main channels of Nine, Ten, the ABC (albeit upconverted so far) and SBS simulcasting in HD but not Sevenâs.
Donât forget Perth. Remember as an AFL state we ended up getting shafted for 7mateHD. The EPG on my tv says the main channelâs programming on 7HD .
I donât know why Friday Night Football gets HD over the WCE/Freo games that is shown on 7 ![]()
Thats whwat it annoys me, the local gaves down here were never HD which really annoyed me. Every eastern game was which i could careless about. But the local games here (Eagles/Dockers) should have been prioritized for HD⌠But no we ended up losing that.
For what itâs worth, the EPG listings of both âChannel 7 Sydneyâ and â7HD Sydneyâ have since been updated slightly to include program details for the primetime timeslots on Sunday & Monday night (so those of Carols, the Molly special thatâs airing afterwards and Love Actually the next night) which were previously marked as âTBAâ slots in the guide.
Make of that what you will, but personally I donât think those Friday and beyond main channel listings on the EPG for LCN-70 are a glitchâŚ
Check epg in Perth and Friday is showing 7 as hd
How come there hasnât been any announcements about this happening
Wonder when SBS will move to MPEG-4 HD
Also is there any legislation preventing networks having more than 1 HD channel? Or is this only possible with all channels in MPEG-4?
Probably because 7 will be last to the party.
And that LCN 70 has listed as 7HD for a while now, despite showing 7mate.
So 7 making an announcement now about 7HD is not going to be received enthusiastically (except HERE!).
Nothing. Itâs just a matter of the limited bandwidth available and the availablility of MPEG-4 isnât enough yet to be able to ditch the MPEG-2 SD channels to clear up space.
