Judging by that, hopefully the end goal is 7Flix in HD too and removing 7two SD. Each multichannel should have just enough bandwidth then.
It will be interesting to see how that is handled as it will require rejigging the multichannel numbers, especially in metro markets where 7Mate HD is on 75
7 QLD: 7HD, 7mateHD and 7twoHD
7 metro: 7HD, 7mateHD
PRIME7: PRIME7HD
GWN7: 7mateHD
GWN7 North West: Nothing
So basically in some regional markets there is three 7 channels in HD while in others there is none at all. I don’t get why 7 can’t at least give PRIME7 and GWN7 the main channel and 7mate in HD.
This is clearly a test atm and will most likely be rolled out in metro areas soon too. Now that 7 own Prime/GWN changes will eventually happen there too.
7Two HD and 7Mate HD both look better than the HD version of the main channel in regional QLD that is MPEG 2 compression and only 1440 x 1080 (rather than 1920x1080).
Allegedly, it was supposed to happen for Prime last year in the leadup to the Olympics - but it got pulled after they “trialled” in Canberra and got bombarded with complaints
They’re going to have to do an LCN rejig soon because it’s just a mess. Probably waiting to switch over 7flix or perhaps revert 7HD to 7HD+7SD before making any permanent changes.
I still maintain they should put 7mate on 71 and the rest below it. Would look neat and organised.
Just a question. Would it be possible for FTA networks to broadcast channels but hide them so they don’t come up in the guide? Just like Foxtel do with most of their SD channels now?
