Yeah and they didn’t all dress up and everything. A bit odd.
I could imagine Sam’s popularity and how he has his own show as well as the success of Cheap Seats that all contracts are being negotiated for next year with higher costs being demanded. Maybe why Tom was off for 3 weeks?
641,000 viewers watched the season finale.
Only the Hayley-hosted episode rated lower this season.
Is that a good number?
Yes in a broader sense. Last season we hit sub-600k thrice. The prior season ended on 15 straight episodes like that. Zero this year.
Not if you’re planning on shutter the show.
Give it a rest, mate.
Ten will not axe one of their highest rating shows.
I’ll be reassured if a press release, an official statement, or a year-end special is planned.
Until then, the chances are low but never zero.
When’s 10’s Upfront again?
Think we need to remember Occam’s Razor here. Ie Working Dog have agreed to a shorter season this year to accomodate Pang’s show, which has meant HYBPA has finished before the Upfronts where an announcement would happen.
Sure, what you’re saying could be correct, but it’s unlikely and baseless at the moment and not really worthy of consideration until there’s a development.
I’m very happy to change my assessment when one comes up.
We’re currently in the dark, and it’s not like HYBPA hasn’t had form going out like this.
The NZ version put up a “We’re taking a break” post following the airing of season 4 finale on Instagram. That wound up becoming its last ever post.
If the show is renewed, great. 10 has one less night to worry about.
Why is a host saying “see you next year” less official confirmation than a media release or upfront.
Ratings nosedived for the NZ show and frankly, no one in NZ has cared since it stopped airing. There’s a difference.
Could just be a normal catchphrase like every other season finale.
Also avoid a potential change of atmosphere if the “end of the show” announcement is made before the taping, rather than after.
Anyway, I’ll stop my doomerism. Clearly it has been ill-received, as a show like this should be.
Not that I want to see it go either, as will 600,000+ of its viewers.
From 10’s media release today
Not a chance 10 is axing HYBPA, get your head out of your ass..
Even if it was axed I’d rather the other commercial networks not pick it up, the only other network that can do it justice would be the ABC.
No need to be an arse about it. ![]()
People said that about the project too
And people like you were speculating about an axing for about five years before it actually happened. ![]()
We're dropping Seasons 1, 2 & 3 in full on the official HYBPA YouTube Channel - now the official home of #HYBPA on YouTube!

Returning in 2026 - Upfronts
The Logie- winning fave Have You Been Paying Attention? returns with host Tom Gleisner and his regular panel buds Sam Pang and Ed Kavalee.
@News727 I thought this wasn’t coming back? ![]()
There were signs earlier that pointed in that direction.
I’m very happy they didn’t materialize and the show gets renewed.
