No end of year wrap for tonights finale?
This yearâs finale seems a lot flatter than the past.
I wouldnât be surprised if this is quietly the last ever episode. We know how Working Dog donât like to go out with a bang with things and would probably prefer to announce itâs ended after the last episode aired. Tom did say something like letâs do this for the last time at the start of the show but that could always just be about it being the last time for this year.
It would be 10âs worst nightmare if that happened. Itâs literally one of the only shows that actually rate on 10, consistently.
And we as the audience would be worse off for it.
Rosie was great. She should have moved to Oz instead of Ireland. ![]()
Hopefully there might be a one off year end special later on.
Maybe they should have one for Christmas Eve/Day as a point of difference.
And thatâs that for another year ![]()
Tom did close the show by saying âSee you next yearâ
10 is the only network that has not had a date for Upfront yet.
Keep that in mind.
Has Ten said anything about this?
Wikipedia has incorrectly listed tonightâs episode as the special âHave You Been Paying Attention to 2025?â. List of Have You Been Paying Attention? episodes - Wikipedia
At the end of tonightâs ep, Tom said âsee you next yearâ.
I corrected the error on Wikipedia.
What are you saying?
What I was saying is that the content slate for next year has not been locked in.
Think about that. Theyâre not confident enough to announce when the announcement is.
The future of the show is in limbo, as is the case with many of 10âs biggest hits.
There is a 50% chance it is canned.
Didnât Tom literally end the show tonight by saying see you next year?
What the hell would you want him to say if the show is canned?
âItâs our final ever episode, sorry to tell you. Weâll not return next year. Thanks for the memories, goodbye!â
That?
And a normal thing for many employers is to break the news to involved personnel of a show that it is the final ever following its airing. Itâs to avoid something like above.
No need to catastrophise.
HYBPA is a beloved show. If 10 were idiotic enough to axe it then surely another network would jump in to swoop it.
That being said Tom did say letâs do this for the last time. Would be interesting if Working Dog decided to quietly conclude the show , preferring to go out while itâs still a popular high rating show? They do seem to be putting a bit of focus into The Cheap Seats (I.e the live show last week)?
Tom also said see you next year. If it wasnât coming back he would have just said thank you for a great year or something and not even mention next year. He would not have said that if they werenât confident they were coming back.
Iâd be gobsmacked if the show wasnât returning.
A more likely outcome would potentially be Tom wanting to ease back and let a young emerging comic take over, however I donât think weâre at that point just yet
I feel like he always says that for the season finale.
