(Nine’s program director Hamish) Turner is delighted with Beyond Lonehand’s Halifax: Retribution, which has been winning its Tuesday night slot since launching a month ago and will assess the data at series’ end before deciding on a renewal.
I would expect this show to get a a second season. Its constantly getting 500k from over night figures and roughly 200k from catch up. It should do well with overseas sells too.

The problem is that the show was created as a standalone miniseries. They would have to come up with a really good idea to run another limited series. It might take a while to make that happen again.

True… and its not a cheap production either.
Found this Podcast the other day. Its from the Australian Screen Writers Podcast. They interviewed Roger Simpson (creator of Halifax and EP) back last year in August when they were completing the edit.
Interestingly at around the 19:45min mark, he is asked the question about a second series. He says that even if the show does gangbusters on Nine it really depends on the international sales as that is the bulk of what will funded the current (in repaying the finance for the series) as well as a future series. So its not really up to Nine if they do get another series, they can say they want it but without international sales it won’t happen unless Nine foot the full bill.
Its a really great listen, he talks about why the show was done as a mini series instead of the tele movie format and how the format allows that if they do a second series it could be set anywhere and have any cast with the main character of Jane Halifax in it still as that is what Halifax was always about. As well as he wouldn’t have done it without a big budget because it what appeals to the overseas market as they are used to it.

They are all up on 9now and have been prior to the new series 
Halifax: Retribution has been acquired in the US by PBS Distribution. The mini-series will be streamed on the PBS Masterpiece Channel on Prime Video.
UPDATE: it will stream on PBS in June 2021.

Great news for the show. I really hope they bring it back for another season. It was my favourite Australian drama this year (although there weren’t a lot to choose from).
