Halifax: Retribution

It does deserve a second season. Its a great drama. But as the article suggests, it will go down to overseas interest, and cost. And if it does go ahead, it wont air until 2022.

A question though - will it ever revert to a series of TV Movies like in the 1990s, or are those days over? I know most networks dont make many tv movies (or 2-part mini-series) these days, but is it due mainly to cost?

TBI reports Tanzania-based Azam Media has bought the rights to Halifax: Retribution for its international entertainment channel.

Given the international attention the show is gaining, I wonder if that increases the chances of the show being renewed for a second season?

As others have said, it wouldn’t air until 2022 at the earliest.

Hope so. Nine’s local drama slate is pretty much empty after Doctor Doctor finished and I doubt Amazing Grace will be getting a second season based on the ratings it received this year.

I do hope that this gets A a second season also. The “police genre” has endless seasons and or mini-series. With Halifax that is on the police and forensic psychology, it can go on forever :stuck_out_tongue:

Or what this “Retribution” season did - having a short run series, perhaps every 2 years, rather than a series of TV Movies like the original series? Like what the ABC did with Jack Irish and Rake - air them every 2 or so years.

I think it won’t be a situation of yearly seasons if it does get renewed. I think it’ll be like you said every couple of years or telemovies again.

The series did well, but the thing is it cost a bloody bomb to produce which is why Nine haven’t jumped at it yet.

But it needs to be high quality to sell overseas for a proper return.

I think it was stated last year by a senior Nine representative, that a second season would always depend on international sales. Fingers crossed we see something announced next year.

Yep Rodger Simpson who was/is the EP of the series and the originals stated it’s dependent on international sales

Hopefully we see a new series on the cards. I believe it did reasonably well overseas.

Ch9 would be a bit stupid not to. it is a good brand for them and does very well for a drama series ratings wise.

The only set back is… it’s very costly to make compared to other local productions.

you have to spend money for quality. crap won’t rate forever.

Is it more expensive than Stan productions?

I believe it was considerably expensive because of the “level of quality” Rodger wanted the show to look. The amount of cast, extras, cameras, filming techniques in order for him to believe it would have a chance on the world stage to sell.

Hopefully we will hear more next yer on further series.
