Yes, I agree! Radio needs more “Throwback Tuesdays” and “Flashback Fridays” to go with the “Wayback Wednesdays”.
Nova 106.9 have “Throwback Thursday’s” I listen to them on Thursdays sometimes but there’s too much “rap crap” for my liking
And a couple more to add that I just remembered:
“Don’t Stop Believin’” Journey - Star 104.5 at around 12:20pm
"Young Lust" Pink Floyd - 2MMM at around 3:15pm, as part of ‘The Randomiser’.
@Karen_Cee
Yes I totally agree, River 94.9 is just so much better than the 4 commercial FM’s in Brisbane. As are Rebel and Breeze FM for that matter. Thank god for the fringe stations.
I still listen to the Breeze in my car driving to/from work everyday,I can’t receive the Breeze on my work radio .After a lot of fiddling and moving my radio.I was able to hear River 94.9 ok today.
It’s the opposite in Sydney where, with the exception of Star 104.5 from the Central Coast, the best commercial music stations that are receivable in Sydney are found in Sydney itself instead of from the fringe stations such as C91.3, i98, Wave FM, 2GO & Sea FM.
Mark Williams,“Show no Mercy” 1990
Prince(the late great),“Kiss” 1989 RIP
River 94,9 today
Uriah Heap,“Free Me” 1978,the Breeze
Kiss is a great pop song. I also like the Tom Jones & Art of Noise 1988 version. I often hear Prince’s Kiss along with Controversy (1981) during the Cold 30. I heard Sign o’ the Times (1987) this week on RNZ International. Loved it!
Heard on Hot 91.1 yesterday:
Thorn in my Side - Eurythmics (1986)
Good song, but it gets overplayed down here.
I could live without hearing the Eurythmics’ song Would I Lie to You? played on commercial radio ever again!
The only real rarity from the band I hear is Sex Crime (1984) heard occasionally on Triple M & other stations.
Not on commercial radio but worth mentioning:
Your Love- THE OUTFIELD
Feel It Again- HONEYMOON SUITE (from Canada, eh?)
Both heard on 3MFM South Gippsland this afternoon.
A few half decent tunes heard this afternoon in the Sunshine & Cooloola Coast markets:
Superfreak - RICK JAMES (1981) on Hot 91.1
Take Me Home - PHIL COLLINS (1986) on Zinc 96.1
Stand - REM (1989) on Mix 92.7
Something is seriously wrong with 97 3 - on local programming the music exhibits horrible compression artifacts. Cymbals sound like a transcoded mess. Audio quality is normally excellent, hopefully it’s only temporary.
Since community radio is now kosher, also heard this afternoon:
Way of the World - MAX Q (1989) on 99 7 FM Redcliffe
Money Don’t Matter Tonight - PRINCE & NEW POWER GENERATION (1992) on Bay FM 100.3 Wynnum
I don’t normally post songs heard on the DAB+ only stations here, but this one is so good and such a rarity on the radio that it deserves a special mention:
Natalie Cole - Pink Cadillac (pop version)
Now playing on Fun Super Digi in Sydney
"Sweet Dreams are Made of This"gets played too often, yes i know, wrong thread
Madonna,“Ray of Light” I heard on 92.5 Gold FM while driving on the Gold Coast today, a track from her I don’t hear very often
Coma - Max Sharam
Playing right now on the brand new Star 102.7 Cairns (via stream).
Radio seems to be coming around to Max Sharam!
(Since when did 102.7 Cairns rebrand to Star?)
On Tuesday.
23FM - D Gen on Triple M Brisbane
