Good to see The Superjesus getting some airplay! They were played regularly in their heyday- the late 90s’- but seemingly have disappeared from most playlists. Their singles catalogue is very solid; “Gravity” and “Secret Agent Man” spring to mind.
I agree re Superjesus!
“Stick Together” and “Enough To Know” are a couple of others songs of theirs I haven’t heard on radio in a long time that hopefully are getting some airplay again now.
Still on the topic of early 00s rock:
“Rollin’” Limp Bizkit - 2MMM just after 3:30pm, as part of The Randomiser.
I haven’t heard this song in nearly 15 years, which takes me back to my High School days.
When it comes to Limp Bizkit, most commercial stations would only play “Behind Blue Eyes”, so this is a big change of pace from them.
I don’t usually listen to Nova 106.9 but I’m enjoying their “throwback Thursdays” so I only listen on Thursdays ,Today i heard,Technotronics,“Pump up the Jam”(1989)
Tone Loch"Wild Thing" ;also about 1989)
Rozella, " Everybody’s Free"(1992)
Bloodhound Gang,“The Bad Touch”(2000)
My guilty listening pleasure ,80s and 90s dance hits😊
You can keep your impotent Nu-Metal bands ;). If they played The Who’s version on the other hand…
If you ask me, I do prefer The Who’s version of “Behind Blue Eyes” to Limp Bizkit’s anyway.
You would only hear the former’s original version on MMM Classic Rock Digital, as well as on Rebel FM in areas where it’s receivable.
every so often 2mmm play rollin on sturday night
have even heard dennis leary asshole during the day on triplem does any other commercial station play asshole
also have heard the superjesus on the mmm quite often
KIIS does between 6 and 9am on weekdays.
Oh, wait.
(He’ll Never Be An) Ol’ Man River - TISM on Aussie Digital sometime after 6 this morning. A song that would be rarely, if ever, played elsewhere.
I miss Aussie Digital, I used to stream it occasionally and it’s always an enjoyable listen. Perhaps they’d pull out Company of Strangers on occasion too (see the new thread). Melbourne definitely has the edge on Sydney in terms of DAB offerings. You’ve also got good fortuitous stations like 3GG and better community stations too (RRR/PBS> FBI/SER, imo). I know TV_E will agree with me on this one.
You got that right, dxnerd.
If I was living in or visiting Melbourne, I’d probably be listening to the radio more than I currently do in Sydney, especially if I have a car that comes with a DAB+ tuner. Along with some good DAB+ stations that are also available in Sydney (eg. MMM Classic Rock, More, The 80s etc), Melbourne has a couple of good DAB+ stations that are not available elsewhere such as Aussie Digital (as mentioned before) & Koool Digital. Also, unlike Sydney, Melbourne has an extra AM music station in 3MP (available in stereo via DAB+), which would give Magic a run for its money.
Oh, and Melbourne is the place to hear a bit of unflogged 80s every Friday night from 7pm until early morning on Gold 104.3, where there’s plenty of wowsers week in, week out.
TISM are master songwriters. Triple M need to play Greg! The Stop Sign again. Same album. Speaking of Triple M, a relative obscurity was heard during the Rush Hour (heard live in Sydney & Brisbane):
Go - Pearl Jam (1993)
Around 12:50pm today, as part of WS’s “80s Lunch”, I heard them play the original version of “It’s My Life” by Talk Talk, which of course was covered by No Doubt.
Elsewhere on the FM dial in Sydney over the course of today, Triple M played:
“Brothers In Arms” Dire Straits
"Ça plane pour moi" Plastic Bertrand
"Voodoo Chile" Jimi Hendrix
And this morning sometime between 10 & 11am, 2ST (via 102.9 from Bowral) played “Elenore” by The Turtles.
“Far side of Crazy” Wall of Voodoo…confessing that i got this played on TripleM yesterday
Today I heard on River 94.9:
Killing Heidi,"Mascara"
J Geils Band,“Freezeframe”,I’d rather hear this track from them that hardly ever gets played than the overflogged "Centerfold
Bananarama,"I Want You Back"
It’s a shame that I have to keep fiddling with my radio to get a decent reception on this station ,sometimes I can’t hear it at all,
Heard Monday night, during the always impeccable Cold 30 on 104.5 Triple M:
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden (1982)
Today on River 94.9:
Michael Penn (yes Sean’s brother )“No Myth”,
can’t remember when i last heard that one,his one and only hit from 1990
Terrance Trent Darby"Sign Your Name "1988
Sniff ‘n’ the Tears ,“Driver’s Seat” a great one hit wonder from 1979
Michael Jackson ,"Rock with you "1980
Garry Moore, “Still Got the Blues” 1990
Some great rarely heard songs there, KC!
I like their “Wayback Wednesdays” then I hear great songs like these, this station is far better than Brisbane’s main 4 commercial FM stations
If only C91.3 was more like River 94.9, then that would be a good alternative to Sydney’s main commercial FM stations.
At around 7:30 tonight, WS played “Hello Again” by The Cars as part of their ‘80 Minutes of the 80s’ program. Earlier today, on the same station’s ‘80s Lunch’, I heard them play “Fire & Ice” by Pat Benatar.
