Great songs heard on radio

This one has been posted on the old MS forum, but is so rarely played and is such a good one, that it deserves a repost

Miss This Tonight - Matt Moffitt

Heard today on WSFMs Egg-celent 80s.

Why this song isn’t played more often is, to me, one of the great mysteries (and injustices) of Australian radio.

WOW! I have not heard “Miss This Tonight” for decades.

What a timeless Top 40 song.

Yes Matt Moffitt is a good one. WS does come up with the good when it wants to.

Another to add; Simple Minds - Sanctify Yourself, yesterday on 2MCs Eggcelent 80s weekend.

I’ve heard that song on River 94.9 sometimes, great song

Been up to the Victorian High Country again. From Friday:

  • Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division on the 3SR FM/LocalWorks “Eggcelent 80s” weekend
  • Strokin’ - Clarence Carter on 102.1 The Edge’s “Workday Double Plays”

Then this afternoon, Golden Years - David Bowie on The Edge, and an hour or so ago, 19-20-20 - The Grates on Aussie Digital.

Well well well, some Journey has made it to More Digital, Don’t Stop Believing on now. “Mistadobalina” was played earlier.

Crush by Pendulum on Nova 106.9, why cannot I hear great songs like this on Nova 96.9?

Probably because Nova Sydney are too busy trying to compete with KIIS and 2DayFM!

And as a result, both Nova & 2Day are getting beaten by JJJ (as well as by Smooth, 2MMM & WS) in the most recent Sydney radio ratings. :slightly_smiling:
By contrast, Nova 106.9 is the #2 station in Brisbane behind 97.3FM.

And that is why I listen to Nova 106.9 and Not Nova 96.9 apart from Fittzy and Wippa, and Kate, Tim and Marty.

Bonfire by Knife Party on Nova 106.9 thanks to Tune in app.

Do you work for Vision Radio or something?

One I haven’t heard for a while…

Love Is - Alannah Myles

on WSFM a couple of hours ago.

Ring of Fire - JOHNNY CASH (1963) on 104.5 Triple M local daytime & 2SM networked evening
Talking to a Stranger - HUNTERS & COLLECTORS (1982) on 104.5 Triple M Cold 30
Endless Road - TIME BANDITS (1985) on 104.5 Triple M Cold 30
Tougher Than the Rest - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (1988) on The Breeze 92.1 & 100.6
Big Wheel - ICEHOUSE (1993) on Hitz 93.9
Ode to My Family - CRANBERRIES (1994) on 4TAB 89.7 & 1008

Honestly I haven’t heard Icehouse’s Big Wheel (or Satellite) on radio since 104.5 Triple M & 100.9 2ZZZ used to play the singles in 1993-1994. A real pity as Big Wheel is a solid album than I still play occasionally despite the neglect it received at the time. 93.9 Hitz played the track during normal overnight programming too, rather than during an Australian-only content show.

Something Happened On The Way To Heaven- Phil Collins (WSFM).

I know it’s not that rare, but clocking in at nearly 5 minutes it’s lesser played than his other hits. A perfectly crafted pop song in my opinion.

Yes, I definitely prefer that single compared to Sussuido or Another Day in Paradise…

Some from the 104.5 Triple M Cold 30 for 1980:

Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime - KORGIS
Girl U Want - DEVO
Expresso Love - DIRE STRAITS
Games Without Frontiers - PETER GABRIEL (another Genesis alumnus)

1980 was of those outstanding years of music…

This morning, on Hot 91.1 FM:
Coma - MAX SHARAM (1994)

That single made it into the Hottest 100 countdown also for 1994.

Max Sharam- awesome! Her other song “Be Firm” is quite nice too.

Cold Chisel, “No Sense”, Triple M Brisbane ,a track from them I don’t hear very often on radio

Recently heard on the Rebel (Brisbane/Gold Coast on 90.5, 93.7 & 99.4 FM):

To Look at You - INXS (1982)
How Soon is Now? - SMITHS (1985)
Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight - REM (1993)
Live Forever - OASIS (1994)
Karma Police - RADIOHEAD (1997)

Still waiting to hear Cigarettes & Alcohol by Oasis on commercial radio! (Chisel’s No Sense is a favourite of mine too - heard Shipping Steel on 4GY breakfast recently).

Last Kiss on KO yesterday… went down very well.
