And as a result, both Nova & 2Day are getting beaten by JJJ (as well as by Smooth, 2MMM & WS) in the most recent Sydney radio ratings.
By contrast, Nova 106.9 is the #2 station in Brisbane behind 97.3FM.
Ring of Fire - JOHNNY CASH (1963) on 104.5 Triple M local daytime & 2SM networked evening
Talking to a Stranger - HUNTERS & COLLECTORS (1982) on 104.5 Triple M Cold 30
Endless Road - TIME BANDITS (1985) on 104.5 Triple M Cold 30
Tougher Than the Rest - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN (1988) on The Breeze 92.1 & 100.6
Big Wheel - ICEHOUSE (1993) on Hitz 93.9
Ode to My Family - CRANBERRIES (1994) on 4TAB 89.7 & 1008
Honestly I haven’t heard Icehouse’s Big Wheel (or Satellite) on radio since 104.5 Triple M & 100.9 2ZZZ used to play the singles in 1993-1994. A real pity as Big Wheel is a solid album than I still play occasionally despite the neglect it received at the time. 93.9 Hitz played the track during normal overnight programming too, rather than during an Australian-only content show.
Yes, I definitely prefer that single compared to Sussuido or Another Day in Paradise…
Some from the 104.5 Triple M Cold 30 for 1980:
Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime - KORGIS
Girl U Want - DEVO
Expresso Love - DIRE STRAITS
Games Without Frontiers - PETER GABRIEL (another Genesis alumnus)
1980 was of those outstanding years of music…
This morning, on Hot 91.1 FM:
Coma - MAX SHARAM (1994)
Recently heard on the Rebel (Brisbane/Gold Coast on 90.5, 93.7 & 99.4 FM):
To Look at You - INXS (1982)
How Soon is Now? - SMITHS (1985)
Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight - REM (1993)
Live Forever - OASIS (1994)
Karma Police - RADIOHEAD (1997)
Still waiting to hear Cigarettes & Alcohol by Oasis on commercial radio! (Chisel’s No Sense is a favourite of mine too - heard Shipping Steel on 4GY breakfast recently).
