Heard a few good underplayed songs on 2NUR FM Newcastle tonight.
I Walk Away by Split Enz
Angelou by Richard Clapton (featuring the late Marc Hunter and Michael Hutchence on backing vocals)
And during the Saturday night Party Mix
The Beginning by Seal (an underrated song from his debut album!)
Great song!
There are two versions of this one. The 7 inch one that is more commonly played (as per clip below)
Though I prefer this rockier version which was recorded for the ‘Crowded House’ debut album (as below).
I think because I heard it too often ![]()
Was this original version or the Soulchild remix?
I think it was the Soulchild Remix.
Kicking off the week with a little Rebel. I’ve heard these so far:
Pulp- Disco 2000
Elton John- Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding
Metallica- Orion (pre Black album Metallica for you, @tamago_otoko )
The highlight for me there is Orion, not specifically because I think it’s the best track there, but because I have not heard this once on any FM radio station here in Australia. It’s a great instrumental song, a couple weeks ago I also heard them play Trapped Under Ice which is one of the heaviest songs off Ride the Lightning. Rebel FM is a really solid, reliable rock station.
These Days (Two Hands version) - Powderfinger
Heard on Mix 106.3 yesterday. This is a former Hit 104.7 staple that I haven’t heard in a long time.
I played the title track ‘Master Of Puppets’ last week on the hard roq bloq and will follow that with ‘Orion’ this week.
Just heard “Eat City” by The Angels and “Money (That’s What I Want)” by The Beatles on the REBEL! There’s just something special about the early, rawer stuff by The Beatles… what’s everyone’s thoughts on the Mighty Rebel FM?
Best rock station in the country by a million miles. And actually I’ve not found better in terms of a pure rock station anywhere. They way they mix the classics in with the active rock stuff is second to none.
You’ll hear it if you listen to the Billy Bob Broadcasting Network (Inphase/Vinyl Shop Valves, Paul’s Powerzone, and my show) ![]()

Listening to the Rebel whilst I watched the Dragons beat the Broncos.
I let out a silent groan when they voice tracked ‘Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ up next.
I needn’t have worried. It was ‘Geno’!
Never doubt the lads from Logan.
Journey - “Lights”
On The Breeze. Wow ![]()
For a commercial FM network, they play some fantastic, non-‘safe’ songs.
They sure do.
Awesome song.
“Bring on the Dancing Horses” by Echo and the Bunnymen (from the soundtrack of “Pretty in Pink”) on the Rebel as I am typing this.
