Standing Strong / Wendy Matthews now on Breeze. Wow, this song used to be all over the radio back in the day but I haven’t heard it in decades. Fantastic to hear it again.

Have been listening to Bay FM for a couple of days for a change. A very eclectic mix - having no RDS is a pain though. Who knew there was an extended version of The Look.

Both played on The Conga Line at various times  I used to hear Standing Strong quite a bit on 2EC back when they had locally programmed music (late 2000s).

Today’s Earthroulette: Albany. Station: 6CRA (‘Great Southern FM’).

They’ve played these so far:

Hedgehoppers Anonymous- Good News Week

Kate Ceberano- Pash

Mostly standard classic hits so far but a decent announcer.

Rocky Burnette- Tired Of Toein’ The Line

WLNG Long Island just now.

One of those songs that used to get played a fair bit but is now lost to radio.

They followed it up with ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ by the Stones which is a nice touch.

Today’s Earthroulette takes me to the graffiti hewn, ghost sign laden inner suburbs of Melbourne, namely and specifically Richmond (Tigerland). So I knew it had to be 3PBS this arvo.

Currently enjoying some rare groove and soul (off vinyl) on the ‘Headhunters’ programme, once again an ear opening listen.

On the mid north coast again today…although with 2RE’s morning talk back, I thought I’d try Great Lakes FM which covers a good length of the highway from Taree to Bulahdelah and heard…

Frente - No Time

From memory, it was the single after Accidently Kelly Street, which got some airplay at the time, but before today, I hadn’t heard the song for well over 30 years!

At 6:20am on C91.3 FM this morning they played “Paralyzer” by Finger Eleven followed immediately by “Dakota” by Stereophonics.

The former song peaked at #12 on the ARIA Singles Chart in mid-2008 but didn’t have any other songs chart here, while the latter receives intermittent airplay on some radio stations these days despite it being over 20 years old.

Here are a couple of awesome Aussie songs that was played on Crow FM while travelling near Kingaroy last night.

The Man of Colours - Icehouse

Street Cafe - Icehouse

I was listening to Crow FM for about an hour and there was not one song I disliked.

Games Without Frontiers - Peter Gabriel on Triple M’s Night Show with Dave Gleeson. The Classic 9 tonight is ‘whistling songs’ and this placed at #9.

Monty Python at #1!

Cry - The Mavis’s

Classic 90s Aussie pop/rock.

One of the best songs of the late 90s and criminally underplayed.

I heard it at a servo or somewhere like that the other day, I had one of those “middle aged person singing old song out loud in public” moments as a result :joy:

I could just imagine you going “oh doo doo doo doo, hoo hoo”

I’ve changed my approach to random listening: I’m now picking a frequency per day rather than a town. I’m including even points as well, and I have UK and NZ stations for that.

Today’s frequency is 100.3 MHz

I’m on Bay FM Brisbane this afternoon. They’ve played these:

Bruce Cockburn- Wondering Where The Lions Are

The Eagles- How Long

The Kinks- Do It Again

Using this site for the randomised pick:

Edit: 'Same Old Girl’ by Daryl Cotton also played, and ‘Somewhere In My Heart’ from Aztec Camera was forward announced.

Are you venturing into Japanese frequencies as well? Even on 87.5 FM I wonder what music stations are out there?

The app I’m using for this doesn’t cover the Japanese FM band (it does do AM, though). I’m using this:

Where you can directly ‘tune’ the frequency like a radio.

I can get 87.5 and a few European stations use it. There’s also a few ‘dummy’ online only radio stations that are selectable.
