Great songs heard on radio

One I haven’t heard for ages on bay 93.9, Tears For Fears - Sowing The Seeds Of Love

That was their best song yet it doesn’t get much air play anymore

Heard “Under the Water” by Merrill Bainbridge via 2NUR FM Newcastle earlier this morning when i was at the Newcastle Show. Pretty much one of Bainbridge’s other big hits next to “Mouth” and was originally performed by Tlot Tlot which the song was titled “Marshall” with Angie Hart from Frente! Performing the vocals.

“Under The Water” was a great track… still remember hearing that on ROX FM when on holidays in the Coffs Harbour area at the time it charted.

It’s a great one.

The late Chris Wilson played harmonica and did backing vocals on “Under the Water”.

I heard on 3RRR in Melbourne tonight “Looking For a New Love” by Jody Watley from 1987. I haven’t heard that song on the radio since the days of “Danceteria” a 3RRR show that played funk and soul music in the mid-1980s. Rarely played on your Smooth, Gold, Magic classic hits stations.

Great song too!

Atlanta Rhythm Section - “Imaginary Lover”

Today on 2NUR. Never heard of this band or song before, but I like it!

A very good song, been a long time since I heard it

Tonight was Mental. Heard

Mr Natural (twice! On C91.3 Campbelltown a few minutes later on SWR 99.9 Blacktown)

Too Many Times (Northside Radio 99.3 Chatswood).

A great Aussie band that deserves more airplay outside of “Live It Up”.

Yesterday morning I heard “Protection” by “Massive Attack” featuring Tracey Thorn from “Everything but the Girl” on “90s Soft Pop” via LiSTNR. One of my favourites from the Trip Hop duo next to “Teardrop” (aka the House MD theme) and “Angel” from their next album “Mezzanine.”

On Bay 93.9’s ‘80’s Lunch’ this afternoon, consecutively (tuned in via streaming)

Current Stand - Kids in the Kitchen
Oh L’Amour - Erasure (had genuinely never heard this song before)

If they play this sort of stuff regularly, I may have to tune in more often!

It’s a great song! Agree, I haven’t heard it on radio for a long time either.

And coincidentally, I just heard one of their other big hits, “So Into You”, on CoastFM today.

I had this one on an '80s compilation album, but I don’t remember ever hearing it on the radio. Great tune!

Certain community radio shows play Erasure and Atlanta Rhythm Section, among other less heard tracks. Erasure in particular is an Inphase staple (1600 Saturdays on SWR).

‘Live it UP’ has been flogged to death by many stations over the years.Another good song from The Mentals is ‘He’s Just No Good For You’

Agree!

Makes me tweak the first line in that song to ‘Don’t you get the feeling you’ve heard that song before’ when I think about how overplayed ‘Live It Up’ is in comparison.

Edit: Actually that song could be turned into a parody about commercial FM radio .. “It’s Just No Good For You”.

'Berserk Warriors ’ is another great Mentals song

The song about those intrepid Vikings gets a run occasionally on my show, as does ‘He’s Just No Good For You’. I love the video clip to the latter also which was filmed at Monterey in Sydney, such a slice of 80s suburbia.

We play the Mentals but are acutely aware of thrashing songs Too Many Times.
