I’m like that in the car but at home I can have Breeze streaming all day long ![]()
Triple Ms “Classic 9 At 9” theme tonight was ‘Clothes and Fashion’.
Some good rarer tracks heard
#9 - Fashion - David Bowie
#8 - Sunglasses At Night - Corey Hart
#7 - Undone (The Sweater Song) - Weezer
#6 - Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant
#4 - Short Skirt, Long Jacket - Cake
#3 - Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes - Paul Simon
(nb. Nos 5, 2 and 1 Prince, Roxette and ZZ Top weren’t as noteworthy in this context).
Alas they didn’t play Timbuk 3, but Gleeso did say “the future’s so bright” in relation to the Corey Hart song.
Others I heard tonight
Heaven Help My Heart - Tina Arena (on 89.3 2GLF Liverpool).
And down at the shops earlier
No Reason - Grinspoon
She’s Like A Comet - Jebediah
A couple of great forgotten Aussie 00s rock classics.
I would have gone with Eskimo Joe- Sweater instead of Weezer, love that track.
Impressed ‘Goody Two Shoes’ got a run; I’m adamant that is my favourite song from this 80s artist.
3PBS: Cleo Sol - “Nothing is Impossible With You”
Immaculate minimalist soul song heard on the classic Breakfast Spread show with Milo Eastwood
I just heard “Another Day” by Dream Theater on Rebel FM, Triple M wouldn’t touch this. What a shocker to hear them on a commercial FM station in AUSTRALIA, I’ve heard them heaps of times on Riot FM but that’s more narrowcast.
Also this Cleo Sol song is one of my favourite songs of all time!
Welcome To The Boomtown - David & David
On Triple M Melbourne right now. Dangerous Dave is playing songs from famous Daves/Davids from the 80s today. A listener suggested David & David so this was played.
By the Way,who does listen to the radio anymore?
I listen regularly, mainly to community stations though.
One from the EON FM vaults. I remember hearing Welcome to the Boomtown on that station when it was released in 1986.
One of my favourites from the 80s and one of the best one hit wonders of all time. They did have another minor hit ‘Swallowed By The Cracks’ which probably didn’t make the Top 50 here.
Great song!
Triple M seems to have refreshed its “Awesome 80s Friday” regional logs this year, playing some more rarer tracks as following on from last Friday’s list, as I heard these on 102.9 Newcastle today between 11am - 1pm whilst out in the car.
A Touch Of Paradise - John Farnham
Rev It Up - Jerry Harrison & The Casual Gods
Dirty Creature - Split Enz
Hold Me - Fleetwood Mac
Hammerhead - James Reyne
Wild Horses - Gino Vannelli

Yes it got a lot of airplay on FM104 in Brisbane too in '86
Was going to say, ‘Boomtown’ would have been an FM104 staple.
May have had special significance as Brisbane charged toward Expo ‘88.
And again heading towards 2032, even though it’s still 6 years away.
By the time of the Olympics in 2032, that song will be almost 50 years old! Food for thought for those born in the mid 80s.
In more recent times, Perth probably fits the song the best. In earlier times, Kalgoorlie and Broken Hill.

A certain Uncanny X-Men song springs to mind there! Which itself is only 9 years away. Scary indeed.
80s New Wave (LiSTNR station on Sydney DAB) playing some brilliant 80s music tonight. Some gems I’ve heard tonight:
Peter Gabriel - Shock the monkey
Bananarama - Cruel Summer
Talk talk - It’s my life
Musical Youth - Pass the Dutchie
Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls
Please Don’t Ask Me by John Farnham at 7:04pm tonight on 101.5 Caboolture. Never heard it on radio before now. One of my all time favourites
And She Was - Talking Heads
Heard on Mix 106.3 on 13/02/2026. Great music video too.
