Great songs heard on radio

For some reason, that song has kind of seen a resurgence of sorts on radio recently…. No idea why…. As it’s been getting a few mentions here lately.

Also for some reason, 99.7 Bridge FM seems to be giving ‘Heartbeat City’ by The Cars a good flogging (especially in the mornings). Must be a backup tape?

They have mentioned that they are using the same equipment since 1992 (31 years ago!), so not a surprise if that happens to be the case. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if the tapes haven’t been updated in a while (the song sounds a bit tinny)

Went for a drive down to the Central Coast today. I heard the following on the car radio whilst out and about

You Wanted More - Tonic (on SWR FM 99.9 Blacktown).

What You Get Is What You See - Tina Turner (on WSFM during their Totally 80s hour at 1pm).

Ordinary Angels - Frente! (On 2NUR FM Newcastle).

Guy Mylecharane from Triple M Albury/Regional Network

Chris Holland was on last night - are they rotating?

Since You’ve Been Gone - Powderfinger

Just played on Triple M 2000’s on DAB+. An underplayed tune from the Vulture Street album.

PYT / Michael Jackson on Breeze. Don’t hear that on other stations.

One of the lesser played songs of the ‘Thriller’ album (on side 2 of the LP), Only ever got airplay when the John Gibbons remix released in 2017, even now that remix is rarely played.

Yes it’s what really annoys me about Australian radio. Only stations like the Breeze or community stations give songs like this a spin yet I’ve heard it played on top rating mainstream AC stations in the US like KOST.

My favourite track from the ‘Thriller’ album👍

I feel a bit queasy when playing MJ these days…it’s a bit like putting petrol in your car.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying his pop genius. ‘Black Or White’ is the sentimental favourite as I had the cassingle.

  • ‘Don’t Tell Me’ - Blancmange

  • ‘You’re The One For Me’ - D’Train

  • ‘London Calling’ - The Clash

  • ‘Mony Mony’ - Billy Idol

All played back to back on Moreton Bay 101.5’s Classic Hits Show. Good playlist so far.

‘Change In Mood’ by Kids In The Kitchen currently playing on Triple M 104.5 Brisbane (as part of Awesome 80’s Friday).

Genuinely surprised they played that song, but they do seem to play some lesser known 80’s tracks before midnight on Fridays. Then they went back to some nice and safe Oils

‘Games Without Frontiers’ by Peter Gabriel on 99.7BridgeFM

They (unsurprisingly) played the version with “Kissing Baboons” instead of the albums “Pissing on Goons”, I thought they could possibly let that slide, since they played this near midnight.

Heard these ones on Triple M Melbourne during the day as part of Awesome 80s Friday:

Razor’s Edge - Goanna
No Time - Mondo Rock

The ‘goons’ version is always preferable.

  • ‘Lido Shuffle’ - Boz Scaggs

  • ‘Make Me Lose Control’ - Eric Carmen

  • ‘Living On The Ceiling’ - Blancmange

All played back to back on 101.5FM Moreton Bay. In particular I haven’t heard that Boz Scaggs song in a good while. (Last time I heard it I believe it was on Triple M Riverina iirc)
