‘You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet’ - Bachman Turner Overdrive on Triple M Nights with Dave Gleeson.
In particular the classic 9 at 9 (topic is artists who have died in the 2020 decade so far)
“According To My Heart” The Reels - Officeworks
At 8:25pm on “Nights with Dave Gleeson” tonight: “Photograph” by Nickelback. Another one of their most commercially successful songs from the second half of 2005.
I reckon their best music was when they first came on the scene in the early 2000s… “Too Bad” is probably my favourite Nickelback song… Chad Kroeger’s solo work with Santana is good too… “Why Don’t You And I” and “Into The Night” are good listens… radio never plays these songs anymore.
If anything, some radio stations still play “How You Remind Me” which is their most successful song commercially.
Apart from the songs you’ve already mentioned, I also like the songs “Someday”, “See You at the Show” (once featured as bumper music on Channel Nine’s Friday night AFL coverage in 2005), “Gotta Be Somebody” and “When We Stand Together”.
They haven’t had a song chart in the ARIA Top 50 since 2014 (“What Are You Waiting For?”, peak #40), though their latest album “Get Rollin’” peaked at number three, yet bombed out of the Top 50 just a fortnight later.
All eight of their albums have peaked at no lower than #6, with “Here and Now” topping the charts in 2011.
On 101.5FM’s ‘Eclectic Avenue’ program:
-
Hole - ‘Celebrity Skin’
-
Nick Cave and The Seeds - ‘Mercy’
-
Them Crooked Vultures - ‘No One Loves Me & Neither Do I’
-
Machine Gun Fellatio - ‘The Girl Of My Dreams Is Giving Me Nightmares’
-
The Dandy Warhols - ‘Every Day Should Be A Holiday’
-
William Shatner - ‘Common People’
-
Tori Amos - ‘Cornflake Girl’
A very ‘classic rock’ feel to tonight’s Classic 9 at 9 on Triple Ms ‘Nights With Dave Gleeson’ (theme was ‘Artists Still Alive Today’).
My highlights re artists/song you don’t hear much of anymore
#7. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
#6. Abracadabra - Steve Miller Band
#5. Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival
For the record, #1 was the Rolling Stones with ‘Start Me Up’.
FWIW, host Thomo needs to brush up on his Australian Music history, he admitted he didn’t know who ‘Brashs’ were (when Gleeson was talking about vinyl albums in music stores).
Heard on the ABC Country Radio and they played ‘If You COuld Read My Mind’ from the late Gordon Lightfoot.
For shame! I used to buy my cassingles from there!
I bet he didn’t know that ‘Start Me Up’ was used for the Windows 95 commercials, either.
Speaking of 1995, @anonymousbroadcaster pulled out ‘World In Union’ by Ladysmith Black Mambazo yesterday. Can’t say I’ve ever heard this on radio, terrestrial or streaming. It was the theme song for the 1995 Rugby Union World Cup; for some reason I had the CD as a kid. I think I’ve played it once on my shows.
I Can Feel The Fire / Renee Geyer now on Breeze.
‘Roadhouse Blues’ by The Jeff Healey Band followed up with ‘I Sold My Soul to Rock ‘n’ Roll’ by Bullet all on 101.5FM’s Classic Hits Show

Katrina and the Waves, “Love Shine a Light”![]()
Stevie Nicks, “Sometimes it’s a B**ch”
Spandau Ballet ,”Only When You Leave “
All on The Breeze
OMG- nothing about Katrina’s feet getting scorched by our star? That has to be a first.
Hopefully they play ‘Do You Want Crying’ as well.
I’ve been sampling Wave 91.7 Mandurah of late (as I ‘drive’ round SW WA on YouTube). They should pipe this into regional WA on the 6SAT licence rather than boring MMM. The Friday night party mix played everything from The Beatles ‘Hard Day’s Night’ to Michael Gray’s ‘The Weekend’…and amazingly it worked.
I knew as soon as I started reading the first song it would be The Breeze. Three great songs. Possibly my favourite Stevie Nicks song too.
Not sure I’ve heard Do You Want Crying on The Breeze, but I have heard That’s The Way on either Breeze or BBC R2.
my favourite Stevie Nicks song too.
It’s one you don’t hear on the mainstream commercial radio stations,I like it too, from about late 1991 from memory
I was too nice to spell out that B word ![]()
I was too nice to spell out that B word
Yet Meredith Brooks is quite happy to sing that word out loud numerous times in her song of that title!
I don’t how Triple J gets away with some of the words that heard during their songs - even if they do a ‘language warning’ announcement at the start of such songs. I’m somewhat amazed that there seemingly haven’t been enough complaints in all these years to make them stop.

Sometimes it’s a Breeze.
Whilst ‘travelling’ through SW WA on YouTube I’m reminded of the vast distances between settlements once you get out of the ‘golden horseshoe’ between Perth and Busselton. I reckon most of the MMM AM outlets will stay on as long as possible. What to listen to otherwise between Albany and Esperance, for example?
Even the area between Augusta and Albany is sparsely populated with only a few very low powered FM relays in between in places like Pemberton and Northcliffe (and even then, only (s)hit is available). I remember visiting Pemberton in 2001 and the 97.3 was Red FM then; it didn’t even cover to our accommodation just west of the town! Pity as Red FM was a great rock station back then. Now 97.3 Pemberton relays Bridgetown (s)hit (6BET).
Some have kept AM on as well as “converting” to FM (7SD Scottsdale and 5RM Renmark) for that reason… so it’s a possibility that could happen in WA.
But then most Triple M AM stations are only 2kw over there and the sandy soil doesn’t make for a good conductor for ground waves, so they probably don’t cover that far anyway… eg. 6BY Bridgetown was weak everywhere from Bunbury down to Augusta for me. And I couldn’t really get 963 Bunbury north of Mandurah.
